About this audiobook
Coretta Scott King Honor winner Brenda Woods introduces Zoe-an endearing eleven-year-old who's afraid her real life will never be as exciting as her imaginary one. Zoe Reindeer has a very big imagination, but in real life she considers herself "just Zoe"-not measuring up to her too-perfect older sister and her smarty-pants little brother. Truthfully, though, she'd rather just blend in with the plants at the family business, Doc Reindeer's Exotic Plant Wonderland. That is until a tall astronomer from Madagascar comes into the nursery looking for a Baobab tree, and starts a ball rolling that makes Zoe long for real adventures, not just imaginary ones. When her family is suddenly forced to relocate, they find themselves heading to a place reindeer have never gone before-and to Zoe, it feels like her first real adventure is finally beginning.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Zoe is an imaginative girl who has the great fortune to live right beside her father's plant nursery, Doc Reindeer's Exotic Plant Wonderland. The eleven-year-old is the middle child in her family, and considers herself to be too shy and dull. That's why she created Imaginary Zoe, a daring and stylish version of herself. Jade likes to imagine this different self when she is feeling insecure next to her too-perfect older sister and her too-smart younger brother, or when she wishes she had been bolder in her actions. Imaginary Zoe snubs her sister and wins prestigious awards, but Just Zoe only imagines those things happening. She is slipping into her dreamland so much, though, that her dad and best friends start to notice her distraction. When some real-world concerns creep into her life - her best friend has to move to a new city to live with his dad, because his mom has cancer, and her dad's bill problems pose the looming threat of having to sell the nursery - she tries to work through the issues, both as Imaginary Zoe and Just Zoe. She also is trying to see if she can grow some baobab trees for a customer, dealing with a nasty girl at school bullying her, and trying to figure out if the new boy in school is really trying to be her friend or just stringing her along for a joke.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When Zoe is having problems with school or siblings, her go-to spot is the Wonderland, her father's exotic plant nursery. But when faced with a snippy older sister, a sneaky younger brother, a best friend leaving in an extended visit to another town, and mean girls at school, will even the Wonderland be enough? Plus, she hears her dad and mom talking about money problems. Will they have to sell Zoe's refuge?Despite the title, this is realistic fiction. I found the writing strong, the characters interesting, and the plot and pacing steady. I'll definitely recommend this to young readers who enjoy this sort of story.
