Beautiful Tempest

Beautiful Tempest is the most recent addition to the Malory Anderson Family series and even though this book was far from perfect it was still a fun blast that made me realize why I love this family so much. Beautiful Tempest features Jack who is Georgie and James only daughter. Now I will say that I HIGHLY recommend that you read Stormy Persuasion before reading this one, because events that happen in that book coincide with this one.Our story begins with the Malory's and a wedding of Anthony's daughter (our couple in Stormy Persuasion) and we see the great bonds and closeness this family has especially the friendship between Judy and Jack. I love these gals together, But now that Judy is married, Jack is determined to have fun for her season and forget about being kidnapped by the pirate the "Bastard" as she refers to him. She wants her revenge and is miffed that her father won't let her go along with him on his journey to find him. But then at a ball, she finds herself dancing with a stranger who is mysterious and makes her laugh and for the first time, she is intrigued by a man. There is something familiar about him. When he invites her to meet him at the park, she agrees but he then never arrives but delivers a note to her with a rose. And she realizes in his note, she knows why she finds him familiar...he is the pirate that kidnapped her and so she and her brother Jeremy hatch a plan to kidnap him but their plan goes wrong when Jack finds herself being kidnapped AGAIN and boy is she furious especially after seeing the beating her brother gets trying to protect her.At first Jack expects Damon to try to force himself on her but he never touches her. In fact he is quite careful with her despite her attempts to kill him or escape. But with her brother and his friend Percy being held captive, she has low options especially when it appears that not everything is as it seems. She soon realizes that Damon is her protector and that there are good pirates and bad pirates. And Jack has to face up to her true feelings for Damon and that not all of them are hateful, and that she has a powerful attraction towards Damon. And when Jack learns the truth about Damon and his intentions, even though its a crazy plan, she begins to soften towards him and begins her own seduction, because Damon is the man that she wants and she will fight for them no matter what...Our hero has a complex past and he has been forced to appear to be working with a evil pirate in order to get his father released from prison. But he is put in a bind, and he will need Jack and her father's help in order to get his father released. But he holds some powerful feelings for Jack's father because this is not the first time he has known the man, and soon the past and present will collide and Damon will have to face his demons from the past in order to have a future with Jack.This wasn't my favorite book from Lindsey or from this series, I will admit that the writing felt a bit off at times. There was quite a bit of angst in the beginning, that throws the reader off but you do need to keep with the story if you want to like it in the end because it does get better the more you read. But I knew that Lindsey wouldn't disappoint and she didn't. I have ADORED this family for years, so it was fun having Jack's story. But Jack is a bit of a drama queen at times but what do you expect from a eighteen year old right? I mean she has just had her come out and having her first season. So I was a little more forgiving of Jack because she is trying to recover from being kidnapped (although you see that there is more to it than that, we see that she is fighting the feelings she felt from her captor and would rather feel angry instead of infatuated and attracted). But Jack has many redeemable qualities. What I really liked about her, is one she is her parents daughter in that she goes after what she wants. She is bold and daring and isn't apologetic about her desires or wants in life. Okay, so I'm a hoyden. But I know love can make people do stupid things and ignore what's sensible. I don't intend to let that happen to me because love won't matter a'tall if a man isn't a good lover ,isn't fun in and out of bed, ends up being a prude who wants to make love with his clothes on. The bedroom is a big part of marriage, and I refuse to get stuck with only half of the good part.And when she realizes that she wants Damon, she goes after him LITERALLY. I mean she seduces him her first time having sex with him and yeah I kinda loved that and boy does he take the surprise of it pretty well. I'm Jack Malory, too bold for subtlety," She kissed him, hotly. "Are you sure, because I'm two seconds from--" "Shut up, pirate. I'm taking what I want."Then we get into some heavy family drama, so if you love this family, you will get a kicker out of it. And first I will say that I really liked seeing the complexity between James and Damon because they do a past that is packed with misunderstandings. So it was interesting seeing them work that out especially when Damon takes two beatings from James for what he did to Jack. And then we get a few surprises in the end that bowled me over and ones I didn't see coming. And yeah this book had me laughing upside down and sideways. Its what I adore about this series, its just plain good ole' fun!! You don't take them seriously, they just give you some laughs and you get such fun times with the Malory-Anderson Family. I did run, in the only direction possible. I'll always run straight to Jack. She holds my heart.I wasn't expecting too many feels from this book, because even though I laughed quite a bit, this series and this author doesn't display too many feels in her books. You have some heart felt moments between Damon and Jack, but they are flowery in any way, its very practical. But seeing them fight for each other was BRILLIANT and the ending just left me with a smile!! Even though this wasn't my favorite from Lindsey, it was still a good addition and I can't wait to see who is next in the family to have their story told!!

Terrific book. I am heartbroken at the knowledge there will be no more Malory books (RIP Johanna Lindsey). They are always full of emotion, fun, heat, and the importance of family. This book is the follow-on to Stormy Persuasion, in which Jack was kidnapped as part of a revenge plot. She escaped unharmed and now harbors an intense desire to get revenge of her own on the man who captured her.As this book opens, James Malory prepares to set off with his fleet to settle the score with the old nemesis who was behind Jack's kidnapping. In typical Malory fashion, he looks forward to the confrontation. What he doesn't enjoy is being pestered by Jack, who feels it's also her right to go along and doesn't take well to being told no. An intriguing masked stranger gives Jack something else to concentrate on until she figures out why he fascinates her. Convinced he is the man she dubbed "Bastard," she and Jeremy and their friend Derek plot to capture him and bring him to justice. Their plans go awry when he captures them instead, and they find themselves headed back to the Caribbean.This was a fast start to the book, and the pace didn't change much throughout the story. I loved the encounter between Jack and the masked man at the ball. The sparks between them were undeniable, and I was surprised that Jack didn't immediately suspect who he was. But then again, her anger over the whole kidnapping was just as intense as it had been, and likely overwhelmed the attraction. I loved what it was that gave it away and wasn't surprised that she threw herself into revenge mode. I was glad that she was smart enough to enlist Jeremy and Derek to help her. I was unsurprised that he was prepared for them, though that didn't lessen the intensity of the scene at the docks. Jack's fury is just as hot this time, and she doesn't give in easily. She certainly gets "Bastard's" attention with her impromptu swim, even though it didn't last long. She quickly realizes that she is stuck on board until they reach the islands and plans accordingly."Bastard," aka Damon Ross, has no intention of bringing any harm to Jack. She is a pawn in an elaborate game. Damon was forced into this kidnapping, but also uses it for his own ends. He has a score to settle with Jack's father and is willing to use her to make it happen. The problem is that she still fascinates and captivates him.I loved watching their relationship develop. Jack is angry and delights in trying to push Damon's buttons. It's frustrating for her when she only gets amusement in return. Meanwhile, Damon's fascination with Jack continues to grow. He is also fairly blatant about his attraction to her and uses that to his advantage. It was fun to see Jack's attitude undergo a slow change as she began to realize that there were things that didn't add up. Though she calls him a pirate, he doesn't behave like one. He's let slip a few things that lead her to believe that there is more to her kidnapping than she knows. It isn't long before Jack's fascination with Damon matches his for her.However, the growing feelings between Damon and Jack aren't all that is going on. The tensions on the ship are high because the crew is split between Damon's men and actual pirates. They were forced on him by the man behind Jack's kidnapping. There are quite a few intense scenes where Damon is all that stands between the pirates and Jack. As they draw closer to the islands, Damon finally reveals the truth to Jack, Jeremy, and Derek, as they seek a way to move the odds in their favor. And let's not forget James Malory, who is not happy (to put it mildly) to find out about Jack's abduction. The initial meeting between James and Damon was everything I expected and more. There are some exciting twists and turns as James and Damon have to work together to bring down their common enemy. That still doesn't help Damon get his heart's desire, as James whisks Jack back to England.Damon isn't about to give up and follows as quickly as he can. The obstacles remain; however, the biggest being Jack's father. While hoping to let time soften the resistance (hah!), Damon visits his grandmother's home, where he receives one shock after another. In the meantime, Jack's mother plans another ball, which Jack requests to be a masquerade. I loved the feeling of closing a circle. There were some hilarious moments at the ball, as both Georgina and James get their licks in, but it's Jack who wins the day. I loved the ending as she and Damon get what they want. I also loved the last line, which went to James, "Where do they keep the bloody brandy here?"

Extremely disappointing book. I read Judith's story before tackling this one and enjoyed her story so much more. I love the early Malory books - they were exciting, funny, thoroughly enjoyable, but I seriously feel Lindsey needs to finish off this series. Are we eventually going to be treated to Judith's and Jack's children's stories well into the Victorian era? C'mon, enough is enough. Yes the family is prolific but there has to be a logical conclusion. Will the family eventually be jetting across the Atlantic instead of sailing? We've followed them from early 19th century through the Regency period, and late Georgian with this one. And, as with every long running series, subsequent books always have too much back story of who's who in the family tree. Start a new series, Lindsey! Please?

Another great Malory story. I love the characters in the Malory series, they are so entertaining and free spirited. Johanna Lindsey makes me want to live in Victorian England.

It's been a while since I've read a book from The Malory series, and Beautiful Tempest was a great reminder why I enjoyed it so much. The stories were always packed with drama and the female leads were always essential to the action with the men. Wonderful stories and with Beautiful Tempest again we are treated to heart pounding suspense, kidnapping, Pirates and feisty females. It was great to catch up with past characters and the adventure and romance of the story was just a good as ever. A real page turner which had me hooked from start to finish. I highly recommend it!
