About this audiobook
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - For writers looking to make sure their next physical interlude on the page inspires readers to share the moment rather than to laugh at it, bestselling author Diana Gabaldon divulges the writing secrets behind the sex scenes in her wildly popular Outlander novels. "Ask me to your bed," he said. "I shall come to ye." In this revealing compendium, acclaimed writer Diana Gabaldon shares her invaluable lessons for creating an immersive reading experience, from evoking a mood to using the power of emotions to communicate physical intimacy. You'll learn the difference between gratuitous sex and genuine encounters that move the story forward, and how to handle less-than-savory acts that nevertheless serve a narrative purpose. Gabaldon also notes that sex can be conveyed instead of described. With such tips as "The Rule of Three" for involving the senses, handy lists of naughty euphemisms (with instructions for use), and Gabaldon's own examples from the Outlander novels, "I Give You My Body . . ." is a master class in writing to draw readers in and keep them riveted to the page.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Helpful look at how Diana Gabaldon writes love scenes using all the senses to make the scene compelling. Definitely worth a look for any writer.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5thanks. I mean, just thanks so much for this because honestly, I haven't read anything better than this about how to do this particular thing. you're a gem D.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was fascinating learning how Diana writes her sex scenes for Outlander. I am not a writer and learned bunches of good insight.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Hilarious and informative
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you're not a writer, I'm not sure you'd get much out of this, but if you ARE a writer, this is well worth a read. A lot of the advice can be applied to writing overall. I bought the ebook, but now I wish I had a print copy, to make it easier to go back and flick through to certain points. Some of the excerpts she uses as examples seemed a bit long, but they do demonstrate her points well. I'll definitely be looking at my writing differently now.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5You will probably only want to read this book if you are planning to write a good old bodice-ripper and want stylized guidelines...of if you are just a fan of Diana Gabaldon's writing style. The sex scenes she writes are honest and intimate. I didn't know what to expect from her writing of such scenes but I have grown to be a fan because she writes them realistically, and with feeling, and not in the way that a bawdy romance novel is written.
