About this audiobook

Mourning the death of his father and gravely injured at the hands of the English, Jamie Fraser finds himself running with a band of mercenaries in the French countryside, where he reconnects with his old friend Ian Murray. Both are nursing wounds; both have good reason to stay out of Scotland; and both are still virgins, despite several opportunities to remedy that deplorable situation with ladies of easy virtue. But Jamie's love life becomes infinitely more complicated-and dangerous-when fate brings the young men into the service of Dr. Hasdi, a Jewish gentleman who hires them to escort two priceless treasures to Paris. One is an old Torah; the other is the doctor's beautiful daughter, Rebekah, destined for an arranged marriage. Both Jamie and Ian are instantly drawn to the bride-to-be-but they might be more cautious if they had any idea who they're truly dealing with.

Wonderful performance/narration & a nice storyline to add into the series.

Very enjoyable, a good insight into Jamie’s trauma and his and Ian’s mercenary adventures before Jamie meets Claire.

I love JAMMF, and I love a good bromance. This short has both. It's a look at Jamie and Ian before everything that has happened in the Outlander universe. Of course the author throws in plenty of historical events to keep things interesting also.

I am a huge fan of the outlander series, this novel is like a prequel of the story of Jamie and Claire, the friendship of Iain and Jamie. Lovely novel, wonderfully written by Diana Gabaldon. This is the kind of books, when one begans to read it and can`t stop till the end.

0.5 in the Outlander series. October, 1740 - Bordeaux, France. Murtagh has just deposited Jamie with his best friend Ian and told him to stay out of Scotland. Ian is with a band of mercenaries and Jamie joins them. Jamie is still recovering from his flogging at Randall's hands and blaming himself for his father's death from a heart attack. A nice little read, but very disappointed when the end was reached half way through the book which was padded out with some chapters from the first Outlander book. I thought we might get the story of Ian losing his leg so expectations not fulfilled.

I really enjoyed seeing more of Jamie and Ian's friendship. Overall it was a pretty fun story to read.

This was a good novella about Ian and Jamie's adventures before Ian lost his leg. As with most novellas it was just a taste of the story leaving you wanting more. It did not include how Ian lost his leg so it was a bit disappointing, but still a good read.

I really enjoyed learning a bit about Jamie and Ian's lives from before Claire's appearance.

As a stand alone story, there's not enough info to understand exactly what's going on. But it does give an interesting view of Jamie and Ian before they were who they were in Outlander.

I loved the story about Jamie before Claire came along, with his friend Ian as two young men basically on an adventure as paid soldiers escorting a beautiful Jewish girl and an extremely valuable Torah to her new husband, but obviously nothing goes to plan!I was really a bit peeved though when I got to the end of the story less than half the way to the end of the book, to find that the rest of the book is the first few chapters of Outlander (or Cross stitch as it is called here in UK) As I have this book in paperback AND on Kindle, both paid for I think it a bit of a swizz to pay 7.99 for half a book!!

This novella, set prior to [Outlander] follows Jamie and Ian as they pursue their careers as mercenaries in France and the mishaps that ensue when they're assigned to guard a beautiful young Jewish woman as she travels to wed her fiance. I'd recommend reading this one after [Outlander] because while it doesn't have spoilers exactly, it will spoil the emotional impact of some of the reveals in that first novel. For example, because it takes place right after Jamie's escape after being flogged twice, there are hints at his father's death and what happened between Jenny and Randall. A fun little read that's worth picking up for fans of the series.

A nice short story about Jamie Fraser and Ian Murray's time in France prior to the events of the first Outlander novel. Jamie is fresh out of his time in prison, and struggling to come to terms with what he left behind in Scotland. Joining a band of mercentaries, they find themselves assigned to escort a young Jewish bride to her betrothed and to safeguard her dowry along the way. Events unfold to reveil not everything is as it appears and makes for a good, short tale. Definitely for fans of the Outlander series.

My first story in the outlander series, a bit long and unfamiliar with the characters. I did enjoy the diverse characters found here.
