      This cute and fun read is great for kids whose parents have gone through a divorce.

      Max begins visiting on weekends at his dad's new apartment. One weekend, they pretend to be secret agents; in another they meet Dad's neighbors during an impromptu "open mike night." Children of divorce will immediately recognize the arrangements, but otherwise the issue isn't delved into here. I don't think the word is even used. It's mainly a warm portrayal of time Max spends with his dad. His class project on porcupines is a nice parallel to Max's two homes and a reassurance to young readers going through the same thing.

      Two thumbs up for Weekends with Max and His Dad. The author did a great job diffusing stressful situations (parent separation, lost homework) in creative and fun ways. Text is well written and illustrations are cute. My 7 year old loved this book! We are looking forward to the 2nd book next year.
