About this audiobook
Shelby's best friend and high school sweetheart, Max Berkman, won't even consider letting her make the perilous journey alone. Together, they manage to reach the capital-only to discover that while things are desperate in Abney, Austin has turned into an urban nightmare on the brink of anarchy.
Shelby and Max's search for medical supplies will lead them into terrifying territory, where the only thing more uncertain than finding what they need is the hope of making it out of the city alive.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I always highly anticipate reading Vannetta Chapman's new releases. Raging Storm is certainly no exception and reading it has further cemented my opinion of her as an author with varied talents who can and does write fiction that is clean, exciting, interesting, and thought provoking. As book two in The Remnant Series opens, Raging Storm has the featured individuals from book one (Deep Shadows) now venturing forth to find medical supplies for the inhabitants of their small town. They must try to avoid raging gangs of evil, unscrupulous people caught up in the devastation that resulted from the solar flare that left civilization totally uncivilized with no electricity or other utilities, no food, no medical supplies or hospitals, no protection. Conditions are bad. In fact, they are now so much worse than bad.As they pierce the evil that is enveloping the large capital city, they do find a small group of people who call themselves "the Remnant." But they also find a different group ensconced in an old church that promises refuge but proves otherwise. Just who can they trust? Will they be able to find the much needed medical supplies? How will they survive? The questions this story opens up to niggle in our heads is, "What would we do if our world should today suddenly cease to exist? How would we react? How would we manage? Would we still hold to our faith in God?"I highly recommended. Get a copy of Deep Shadows (The Remnant Series #1) and read it. Then read Raging Story (The Remnant Series #2.I received a complimentary copy from the author to facilitate this review. Opinions are mine alone and I was not compensated.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book. I hope that what happens in this book never happens in real life but I know that it could. This really shows what people will be like during such a crisis. It is hard to envision but from what has happened over the last few years when only a small tragedy occurs it really isn't. I loved the characters and hope they all survive in the next installment. It is going to be hard to wait for book three. I received a copy of this book from Harvest House Publishers for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Once you turn that first page and get your bearings, remembering the first book Deep Shadows and the solar flare that put us where we are today.I felt like I was reading a movie and I was one of the participants, and there were bullets whizzing past my head, and found myself ducking. Can you imagine even where you live; no more power and nothing with computer chips working? How would you survive, do we have the skills to, and found myself questioning my abilities, I do live in the country and have acreage, and a pond with fish. While you think about surviving the author reminds us that there is someone out there that wants all that you have even if they don’t need it, and will use all means to take it. There is no law, and the false profits have arisen in abundance, who to trust.I have one big complaint, I was reading along and page turning, when boom, it was like I fell off a cliff, and I tried to turn another page, but there wasn’t anymore, now I am bidding my time for the next book, which can’t come fast enough.I received this book through Net Galley, the Author, and the Publisher Harvest House, and was not required to give a positive review.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Raging Storm by Vannetta Chapman is the second book in The Remnant series. Shelby Sparks and her son, Carter have relocated with Max Berkman to High Fields. High Fields is the farm belonging to Gloria and Roy Berkman, Max’s parents. With the destruction of the Sparks home and the problems Abney is encountering, it made sense to relocate. But Shelby does not plan on staying at the farm for long. She needs to get to Austin to find more insulin for Carter. Shelby’s first priority is taking care of her son and he needs the insulin to survive. Max, of course, will not let Shelby go alone (he loves Shelby and wants to protect her). The two of them set off for Austin, but encounter a problem when they reach Abney. Nadine Perkins, the mayor, wishes them to find medicine for the town. They are in desperate need of antibiotics and other medications. Mayor Perkins insists that they take Dr. Farhan Bhatti with them. He knows Austin and the medications needed. Shelby resents the delay, and she distrusts Dr. Bhatti, but the mayor is leaving them with no choice. Patrick Goodnight and Bianca Lopez will be joining them on the perilous journey to Austin. Bianca and Patrick will follow in a second vehicle and provide backup in case they encounter trouble along the way. This group was not prepared for what they encounter in Austin. Will Shelby be able to find the insulin she so desperately needs for her son? Will this group be able to get out of Austin and back home?Raging Storm picks up where Deep Shadows left off. Raging Storm is even better than the first book. This book is well-written and engaging. I was immediately drawn in and kept reading until I finished the story. The novel has a good pace which makes it a pleasure to read. I give Raging Storm 4.5 out of 5 stars (I really liked it). The only sour note was Shelby. I had trouble liking her in Deep Shadows, and I found her discourteous in the first half of this novel. Shelby is impatient (dislikes every delay in their journey) and is only thinking about her objective for the journey (I understand her concern, and I have issues with patience myself). However, Shelby does change over the course of the story and improves in the second half of the book. I think that Vannetta Chapman did a remarkable job at depicting what life would be like if we experienced a disaster. We would like to think that people would help each other out and come together as a community. But it is not realistic. Many people would be looking out for themselves and trying to find ways to profit from the disaster (you know I am being realistic). I liked how Ms. Chapman tied Raging Storm back to Overshadowed. Readers finally get to find out about The Remnant and how it connects to the story. I am curious to see what will happen in the next book in The Remnant series. Raging Storm is not a stand-alone novel. You do need to read Overshadowed and Deep Shadows prior to Raging Storm.
