About this audiobook

TIME IS RUNNING OUT Frontier life is hard enough without having kids to worry about-especially for a widower like Paul Meakes. Still, he's settled where he is and resolved to stay in the small Colorado town his son and daughter call home. So when his daughter is hit by a seemingly poisoned arrow during an Indian raid, Paul is determined to track down the Comanche villains who hurt his little girl-and bring them to justice with the help of Indian hunter Hank Adley, a hired gun who's got business of his own with the tribe. But when the trail leads from a close call with Indian warriors to a deadly intrigue, Paul discovers that the dangers of the West are far greater and more varied than he ever imagined. And to save his family, he has no choice but to take a stand against them all..

I have read several Comptons and I was looking forward to this one as I agree with the book jacket blurb that he wrote in the same vein as Louis L'Amour. However, this novel is not near the standard set by Compton. Some of the incidents and characters do not ring realistic. I had difficulty getting into the story as it was slow starting and the main characters did not grab my interest. If you are Compton fan, ship this one.Paul Meakes runs a general store in a small Colorado town in 1886. While visiting another traveling merchant to purchase supplies, they are attacked by Comanches. His daughter is wounded and after being treated by the doctor fails to recover. As the ailment doesn't seem to be because of the wound, Meakes sets out to find the cause. It turns out to be contaminated water. With the assistance of a native and a bounty hunter, he searches for the source of the problem and the remedy.
