    طاؤس چمن کی مینا اعزاز حاصل کرنے والی ایک مختصر کہانی ہے جو لکھنؤ سے تعلق رکھنے والے اردو کے ادیب نئر مسعود نے لکھی ہے ۔ یہ کہانی سنہ 1800 کے وسط کے لکھنؤ کے پس منظر میں لکھی گئ ہے جہاں اودھ کے نواب واجد علی شاہ کے پاس ان کے قیصر باغ کے ایک پھلواری حصے میں خوب صورت میناؤں سے بھرا ہوا ایک پنجرہ تھا، جس کی دیکھ بھال ان کے باغ میں کام کرنے والا ایک غریب مالی کالے خان کرتا تھا۔ یہ کہانی کالے خان اور اس کے خاندان پر ٹوٹنے والی مصیبتوں کی وہ داستان سناتی ہے جب وہ کالے خان اپنی بیٹی کے لئے ایک مینا چراتا ہے،جس کی فرمائش بیٹی بہت دنوں سے کر رہی تھی۔
    نئر مسعود سنہ 1936 میں پیدا ہوئے۔ انہیں بطور اردو زبان کے ادیب اور اردو میں مختصر کہانیاں لکھنے والے کی حیثیت سے بہت سراہا گیا۔ انہوں نے کئ ادبی کتابیں لکھیں اور وہ مترجم بھی تھے خاص طور سے "کافکا" کے۔ مگر ان کی وجہ شہرت ان کی لکھی ہوئ مختصر کہانیاں بنیں۔ یہ کہانیاں ان کے مجموعوں "گنجیفہ"، "سمیہ"، "عطر کافور"، اور "طاؤس چمن کی مینا" میں شامل ہیں۔ ان کی لکھی ہوئ مختصر کہانی "طاؤس چمن کی مینا" کو 2007 میں 2001 کا اردو اعزاز سراوتی سمن ایوارڈ ملا تھا

      Short and sweet story of the lengths a widower will go to for the sake of his daughter.

      One of the best stories ai have read. The love of a father for his daughter. The description of the royal gardens and their care; of the birds and animals; of the royal mechanism and compassion and just rocks; and the finale. It is easy to picture the story. Quite heart rending. At par with काबुलीवाला by रविंद्र नाथ ठाकुर
