About this audiobook

'Do you need my help?' It was the first question he asked. They called him when they had nowhere else to turn.

As a boy Evan Smoak was taken from an orphanage. Raised and trained in a top secret programme, he was sent to bad places to do things the government denied ever happened. Then he broke with the programme, using what he'd learned to vanish. Now he helps the desperate and deserving. But someone's on his trail. Someone who knows his past and believes that the boy once known as Orphan X must die .

“Outstanding in every way.” LEE CHILD

“Tight and tense in all the right places . . . Orphan X is weapons-grade thriller-writing from a modern master.” GUARDIAN.

    Recommended by a friend.
Not my usual genre, although I am a fan of Karin Slaughter, so not too much of a stretch for me.

I did enjoy the book, although I wasn’t captivated by it.
The story was sound and good characters, but it was just very long winded, which I suppose is a requirement when building depth and history into a series.

I would like to carry on with the series, but I’m not exactly going to rush for the next instalment. Its saving grace was the huge a twist at the end. That definitely peaked my interest.

Strong writing, good tempo & story development, a level of complex characterisation not usually found in this genre make Orphan X a fascinating read.

    Narration is brilliant.
