      Sage is homeless and doesn't have anywhere to go. When she's at a party one night she's being taken. Sage is part of a magical world and is the daughter of a Celtic goddess. She was hidden for a long time, but her powers are about to arise. Sage's skills evolve around fire, but she has no training and doesn't know how to keep them under control. Sage is almost ready to Emerge and then she has to pledge herself to one of the five deities. Because Sage is powerful they're all interested in her. However, not everyone is trying to look out for her and Sage can't rely on anyone doing something for her with the best intentions. She has no idea who she can trust.

      Faelan has promised to protect Sage. He's an old soul in a young body and has plenty of experience, but his powers are diminished and he can't keep every situation that arises under control. Faelan isn't supposed to feel something for Sage, but whenever he's near her his heart gives him a different message. He isn't the only one who's trying to get her attention though, someone else wants the exact same thing. Sage is constantly in danger and she's part of a complicated game she doesn't understand. Past and present are about to become one and she's at the center of it. Who can she go to for help and what should she decide when the time comes to choose?

      Fire and Bone is a gripping story. Sage is strong and incredibly kind. She's powerful, but she's afraid to use her gifts, because she doesn't want to harm anyone. This makes her extra vulnerable. She's inevitably part of a world she doesn't understand and she has very little time to learn. Finding out if she'd be able to stay alive kept me on the edge of my seat. Faelan wants to protect her as well as he can, but this task is difficult. There are so many enemies and secrets that were hidden for years are about to come to the surface, so he has to keep anticipating, but can never fully predict the impact of a situation. They're both in over their heads, but they never give up. They're resilient and love is what keeps them going, which is a beautiful thing. I really loved their complicated connection and enjoyed every page of Fire and Bone because of it.

      Rachel A. Marks has fabulous world building skills. Her detailed explanations of families, rules and history are all equally fascinating and they're making it possible to fully understand the story. I could easily visualize everything she writes about and I love it when an author makes a story come to life so well. Rachel A. Marks has written a book filled with adventure, feuds, battles and trickery, which is exactly the kind of fantasy I like. Fire and Bone is an amazing story that intrigued me from beginning to end. I highly recommend this fantastic enchanting book.

      The main characters were supposed to be so powerful but showed only weakness throughout the book. Even Sage’s protector had absolutely no power to protect her. Her love interest is forced to be celibate? You have got to be kidding. The concerns of most of the characters seemed petty and nothing was resolved. The ending was so bad that I would not even consider reading the next book. This book had such potential but then fell flat. Such a shame considering the people narrating the book were so good - wasted their talent.

      This urban fantasy is set in current day Los Angeles and gets its paranormal from Celtic mythology. Living among humans are demigods, shades, druids with magical powers, pixies and other magical beings. Sage is a street kid who just turned eighteen. She entered the child welfare system as a ten-year-old when she was removed from her drug addict mother's care. She had a variety of foster care experiences but none of them were good. She doesn't trust anyone. But she has a secret past and powers that fit her into the magical world.Sage is a demigoddess, the daughter of Brighid, and her power is fire. She should have been found as a twelve-year-old and introduced to the magical world. Now she just has a month or so to learn all she can and choose which of the powerful Otherworld families she is going to pledge allegiance to. She was found by the Brighid group and given Faelan Ua Cleirigh as a guardian and teacher. Faelan is an outcast from his birth court and is a man with many secrets.Sage is being courted by all the houses who want this talented demigoddes to belong to their house. Kieran is a prince of House Morrigan and is particularly determined to win Sage for his house. Sage doesn't know anything about the politics of the houses or her magic and keeps getting less than clear answers when she asks questions. It doesn't help that she is being plagued by very realistic dreams that tell the story of a tragic romance 700 years in the past. This was an entertaining beginning to a series told in alternating chapters by Sage and Kieran. It had, action, danger, and romance. Fans of urban fantasy will enjoy it and be looking forward to more stories in this series.

      I...LOVED..THIS...BOOK! From the opening lines, I was hooked! So good! I loved Sage's tragic character and the fact that she is a demigoddess with fire powers?! To cool! Living on the streets, she has hit an all-time low, but suddenly things change as she meets mysterious strangers, and things start to get interesting! Unsure what's happening, she soon learns she is the daughter of a Celtic goddess, but that's only the start of her problems!

      I gave it 3.5 starsAlthough it took me a little bit to get into the story, FIRE AND BONE ended up being entertaining.I almost gave up on FIRE AND BONE when I first started reading, but decided to keep going. I ended up enjoying the world, the mythology and the characters. Sage had a lot of mystery to her. She doesn't know much about herself and we learn about it along with her. I will admit that a lot of things were confusing until more was explained—which could be frustrating—but I' glad I stuck with it. I can't say the romance was my favorite part of FIRE AND BONE. It isn't heavy on romance, but the romance that does take place happens to be a triangle. Ugh a triangle. As with most triangles, I like one and don't care for the other. With slow reveals, interesting characters and a unique storyline, FIRE AND BONE was a great start to a new urban fantasy series. * This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

      THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD. Ahem. Seriously, this is a fantastic, immediately-engaging YA urban fantasy that mashes up Irish mythology and Southern California. I was happy to provide it a blurb!
