About this audiobook

The first novel in Julia Quinn's worldwide bestselling Bridgerton novels, now a series created by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix. This is the story of Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke: welcome to the ballrooms of Regency London . . .

Can there be any greater challenge to London's Ambitious Mamas than an unmarried duke? Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1813

By all accounts, Simon Basset is on the verge of proposing to his best friend's sister, the lovely - and almost-on-the-shelf - Daphne Bridgerton. But the two of them know the truth - it's all an elaborate plan to keep Simon free from marriage-minded society mothers. And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable . . .

Their ruse works like a charm - at first. But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, it's hard to remember that their courtship is a complete sham. Maybe it's his devilish smile, certainly it's the way his eyes seem to burn every time he looks at her. It wasn't the plan, but it seems she's falling for the duke, for real. And amidst the glittering, gossipy, cut-throat world of London's elite, there is only one certainty: love ignores every rule . . .

I went into this book and series as a whole thinking I may not enjoy it but was open to giving it a try. I’m so glad I did as I am really enjoying this series so far. The duke and I is a story about Simon and Daphne and their fake romance journey a journey that leads them both down a path they never expected.
Even though this is a romance there is far more to this book than you may first believe.
Daphne is not the typical female character that you would expect from this genre, nope daphne has no problem speaking her mind but she is also caring and has her funny moments too.
Simon in my opinion has a much deeper story than Daphne, he is struggling a lot with issues left over from his childhood and father that heavily impact his everyday life and go on to shape his and Daphne’s relationship.
Without giving anything away I would say that if you start this book for the romance that is not all you will discover you will be sucked into everything else going on in the world and the several storylines going on throughout. This book is a treat I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did and would recommend it to adults only due to the explicit content.
If you liked this review or it has helped you in some way could you please rate it I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Daphne is a rapist. She doesn’t deserve a happy ending. And to top it all off, her victim has to apologise to HER.

The Duke and I is one of my most favorite books in the series.

However I am quite disappointed that this audiobook is quited jumbled? The ending is in Chapter 16 and all the rest were just crazy misplaced. ?

I love the first half, the fake dating and friends to lovers are great. But Daphne? Just NO

    Excellent audio narration!

And as a romantic fiction, it is unique but a little too cringe for my liking. However, it uncovers the issues of masculinity from a hierarchical point of view, which I find fascinating.

It is best to read by order. For some reason I've read this one second... It's a sweet story, much better than the series.

It was an enjoyable read. The voice was perfect and I really liked how Quinn takes a swipe at the silliness of men without putting them down exactly...
