From back of the book:"It's a matter of pride....Modern day werewolf laird Ian MacNeill reluctantly allows a film production company to use his castle, but he knows his secretive clan has a big problem when a beautiful red werewolf female who insists she's working on the film keeps showing up in the wrong places...And a matter of pleasure...Julia Wildthorn is not who she says she is-she's sneaking into Argent Castle to steal an ancient relic for her grandfather and to do research for her next werewolf romance novel. When she catches a glimpse of Ian, she realizes he's the perfect hero..."My Thoughts:A hunky highland werewolf, an old haunted castle filled with secret tunnels, and a romance writer with secrets of her own....this story had a great setup to it. Ian is the oldest of quadruplets and the leader of his werewolf pack. He has reluctantly allowed a movie production company to film at his castle in hopes to alleviate some of his money troubles. Enter Julia, a romance writer who writes about werewolves, and is a wolf herself. Julia has come to the castle pretending to part of the film crew but trouble follows her wherever she goes. She instantly catches the attention of Ian and the attraction between them instantly ignites. One of my favorite things about this book was the descriptions of Argent Castle. It had everything you would expect an old castle to have including trapdoors, hidden tunnels and passageways, and a ghost. It helped to create the perfect setting for this paranormal romance. I also liked the mystery aspect of the story as Julia is getting mysterious phone calls from someone that seems to know all of about her secret reasons for wanting to get in the castle. There were times that I couldn't put the book down as the author was great at creating a tense, suspenseful environment. That being said though, I really struggled with the romance between the two characters. Or more accurately, I needed Julia to have more of a backbone to her. There were times when her strength of character showed through but unfortunately it was far and few between. I also struggled a bit with the switching of viewpoints between characters at times. There were a couple of times where I was thrown off balance and had to go back and reread a bit. Overall though while I didn't love this book, I did like it and I plan on reading more by this author. I'm sure that there will be romance lovers who can't get enough of this one so I would recommend it but with a few hesitations.Disclosure: I was lucky enough to be sent a copy of this book for review from the lovely Danielle at Sourcebooks. My thanks!

Summary Julia, even though a werewolf romance author, has come to Scotland with more than one intention. Julia, has been charged by her grandfather to find a artifact that is hidden within the castle. Even with a hidden agenda, Julia can't resist the magic of the scenery surrounding her, or how much Laird Ian Macneill makes her feel alive, both her human side and her wolf. However Ian is totall Alpha, leader of his people and his den, and doesn't like not being in control. Ian has had to be a leader for quite some time, and even though he hates strangers, and having a movie being produced at his home, is even more loathesome. However, Julia intrigues him, and his wolf only wants to get to know the little red even more. What he doesn't expect is to find Julia as his Mate...The Hero Ian, is a tough highlander and alpha wolf and Laird over his clan. Even though it is the modern age, Ian and his people have managed to maintain tradition of the highlands. As the oldest of his brothers, he is the leader and as such has many responsibilites. Because they are in much debt, he knows he doesn't have much of a choice to let a filming crew in his home. But when he meets Julia, he senses something very suspicious about her, and is determined to find out what she is hiding. Only he never thought she would be the one to teach him about love. The Heroine Julia, a royal and a red werewolf, also defies convention, and writes werewolf romance novels. However she is here in Scotland on a special mission by her grandfather. As much as she would like this to be a vacation for her, she knows her grandfather has good reason for sending her here. But finding a secret box hidden within the castle, will be no easy task, especially with Laird Ian around. What she doesn't expect is to find such a connection with him, where she finds herself falling madly for him...My Thoughts Heart Of The Highland Wolf is the seventh in the series. I have just loved each and every book that I have read from this author. When I found this one at the library, and saw that not only did it have werewolf shifter, but was mixed in with a scottish highlands theme, I definitely could hardly wait to read it. I have to say I didn't know when I started reading it how much I would like it....but I LOVED it!! Its by far my favorite book of the series. It was such a witty and engaging story, one that keeps the reader on their toes. There was one surprise after another and I felt myself feeling like laughing almost constantly. I loved both Ian and Julia. Ian is very alpha, commanding and domineering, the kind that is the 'he man' type. Which I found so amusing at times. Julia is feisty, stubborn and very headstrong. I found that together they created some heated chemistry. Overall a delightful and very engaging read that had me reading as fast as I could. I truly enjoyed the way this author mixed together a contemporary romance, with paranormal elements as well as some scottish highland culture mixed right in that made for the perfect balance for a outstanding read!!! It has to be one of the best werewolf romances I have had the pleasure of reading. One you don't want to miss out on reading!!! (plus who could resist such a beautiful cover...deliciousness) A ADVENTUROUS RIDE OF ACTION, MYSTERY AND ROMANCE!!!

Heart of the Highland Wolf is 7th in a series by Terry Spear about werewolves and the second one that I have read. The main character, Julia Wildthorn an author joining a movie company so she could research her next werewolf novel, also has a secret mission. Ian MacNeill, laird of Argent castle is quite reluctant to have this movie company anywhere near his castle. A very enjoyable and easy to read story. A romantic, sexy modern day tale that has men in kilts, a castle, violent wolf packs, lots of steamy sex scenes and a secret from centuries ago that changes the lives of Ian and Julia. I like paranormal stories that are written in a believable way. Fans of the paranormal, werewolf genre will want to add this book to their collection.

This latest installment in the werewolf series is one of my favorites, along with the first book Heart of the Wolf. There is always something fresh and exciting with each new book. I love shifter stories so I'm glad this series hasn't gotten old for me.Heart of the Highland Wolf was a tantalizing read. A story that had a wonderful blend of romance and suspense. Terry Spear's sexy alpha heroes and strong heroines make for one delicious recipe. With this book the hero is a highlander and the setting is in Scotland and for me that is like the cherry on top. One of the great things about this series is you don't necessarily have to read this series in order. If you love shifters you have to check out this series.

    Synopsis
The sole survivor of her red wolf pack, Bella is rescued by a grey wolf male and adopted into his pack. Unfortunately, she is soon forced to flee when the pack alpha sets his sights on her and becomes a serious threat. Years later, Bella comes face to face with her past and Devlyn, the wolf who saved her, when circumstances bring them together once again.

    Review
Starts out really well with an interesting story and characters with sizzling chemistry. Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse with the addition of several improbable subplots.

Bella is a strong-willed and independent heroine. However, the fact that she has no faith in Devlyn's abilities made me like her less. Devlyn, however, is simply gorgeous and the fact that he is constantly walking around naked in a big plus, lol!

The werewolf mythology has potential, especially with the inclusion of traditional wolf characteristics and behaviors. However, the explanation of their origins is very sketchy and underdeveloped. Moreover, the overly obsessive and sexist nature of the wolves becomes aggravating after a while. Every wolf in the book is determined to "claim" Bella whether she likes it or not, and this is just annoying.

The writing flows smoothly and the dialogue is good but the plot becomes excessively convoluted with too many storylines that are never fully realized. Moreover, the resolution of the serial killer plot is ultimately unsatisfying. The sex scenes also become repetitive and superfluous and add nothing to Bella and Devlyn's relationship.

The secondary characters don't contribute much and even the hints at the next book don't sound that promising - the hero is a red wolf and after they are completely ridiculed in this one, I'm not that certain that I will be continuing.

I won the 10th book in this series from GR First Reads program back in 2013. Unfortunately, that meant I had to collect the others in the series before reading it. Now that I have, I'm going to make my way through the series so that I can read the one I won. The first book was good. I love the "werewolf" aspect of the romance and it gets pretty steamy. But I also love the aspect of a mystery that needs to be solved, some drama going on in the main character's lives that needs to be fixed, and even a bit of thriller element going on. It wasn't just pure romance, there was a story there, something that just kept you reading. It will be interesting to see if the series follows the same characters or pack, or if we get a new couple each book.

A well-written novel centered on the passion of two potential mates struggling to protect each other in the face of lustful, abusive pack alphas. The story, characters, and elements of the paranormal setting were somewhat unique and definitely interesting. A significant portion of the book was dedicated to the potential and eventually realized sizzle between the pair. Sometimes it seemed the story was just a device to surround the heated scenes with an interesting structure, and often the plot and characters seemed to simply be interspersed to lightly connect to the next heated encounter. This work should especially appeal to those readers who like a lot of heat, punctuated surrounded with a somewhat interesting story.

This author had an interesting world concept, and weaves a lot of great wolf behavior into her mythology. Unfortunately, I couldn't stand the characters' behaviors and motivations. Not for me, but I'm sure someone else could enjoy it.

This book was not very good as a romance. All of the romantic stuff took place in the past and it is about them getting re-aquainted. The book is more about solving some mureder mystery that never really answers all of the questions posed in the book. It also views humans as week or lesser beings. There is also a lot of fighting and wolf pack dynamics.

I picked up this book thinking it would be excellent, but there's not much to it. The idea was good, but the author just didn't make the story plot - in my mind - good. It kept my attention but just barley.
