About this audiobook

“Would you rather love the more, and suffer the more; or love the less, and suffer the less? That is, I think, finally, the only real question.” First love has lifelong consequences, but Paul doesn't know anything about that at nineteen. At nineteen, he's proud of the fact his relationship flies in the face of social convention. As he grows older, the demands placed on Paul by love become far greater than he could possibly have foreseen.

Just Brilliant. This book is a meditation on love, this is not a love story in the typical sense and yet it is. Sad and aching. Thoroughly enjoyed it. This book reminded me a lot of Barnes,'A Sense of an Ending'. They both have a similar vibe but still very different.

A bit too long and weak for my taste but good representation of a real life love story.

First three chapters are moving and sad in a way that made me think to my own past...unfortunately the fourth chapter ends up being far too indulgent and the whole piece starts to bore.

Definitely worth reading and I'll certainly remember this book for some time but I came away somewhat dissatisfied

It is a beautifully written book and read perfectly. Sad, at times funny, it was a strange experience. Despite liking it I could not bond with the characters. Probably the first time that I enjoyed a book without feeling a connection to the dramatis personae.
