About this audiobook

With the realm under threat and an ailment sweeping the land, the last remaining hope may come from an unlikely source--a young, orphaned servant with untested and untrained abilities. Lady Shona, the newly crowned queen of the realm, is a leader without a throne. Pursued relentlessly by a dark force, her small contingent of loyal followers must make a difficult choice--flee or fight. Determined to save her land from nefarious threats, Lady Shona decides that she must seek out the enemy and attack them head on--a strategy that leads back to the region of the Three Valleys where Hyam was born. Alas, Hyam has been struck by a mysterious illness that is silently sweeping through the realm. Known as the wasting disease, the sickness has no cure. But there is one shred of hope for Lady Shona and the realm--and it comes in the most unlikely of forms. A young orphan, untested and untrained, could well mean the difference between victory and total defeat. Thomas Locke concludes his epic trilogy with a gripping tale of courage that will inspire readers to persevere even when all seems lost.

What an interesting story! All the fantasy elements are here: good, evil, magic, elves, discord, wizards, mages, and magical potions. Budding abilities are the highlight of the tale, but there’s much more! The characters are well developed, and the story line well thought out. This was a pleasure to read!

This book is the conclusion in the Legends of the Realm trilogy. I liked seeing the story line wrapped up and how Lady Shona worked at leading her people even with everything that was against her. I liked seeing how she had to put her reliance in someone that she did not know and did not know if they could get the job done, but had to trust that they could. I received a copy of the book from the publisher, the review is my own.

If you enjoy fantasies with elves, humans and dragons you will so enjoy this book. This is Book three in the Legends of the Realm series. You don’t have to read books 1 and 2 to understand this one but if they are as good as this one then you should read them. Dally is a wonderful character who is full of magic that she doesn’t understand. She helps to save this world. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

I was not impressed by this book. It was more like a plot outline than a fully developed novel. The writing is pedestrian, and there is no character development (characters tend to be broadly drawn stereotypes), no tension between characters, no suspense. The fact that I had received it for Early Reviewers is the only reason I finished it.

I received this from Early Review and enjoyed it immensely. I thought it was a stand-alone title, but found there were several books before it and yet it read well. I enjoyed the characters, the plot, and the interweaving of the storyline. Although some of the paragraphs seemed sparse it was well done and now I will be starting the series from the beginning! Thank you LibraryThing for the Early Reviewers program!

An interesting story that could have been so much more. I really enjoyed the subject of the story, the plot and the characters. However, I felt that the book could have been a bit more detailed. Sometimes I felt I was being taken from one place to the next without much warning. Again, it is a great tale about the powers of evil trying to destroy the long-buried powers of good, but I would have preferred to have savored it a bit longer.

I won this book in early reviewers. I havent been able to finish reading the book yet. It was delivered to me the day before christmas. The book was delivered in a padded envelope and the print is really nice. The map at the beginning of the book amkes me nostalgic and reminda me of hobbiy and lord of the rings. I will wait to write about the writing and story of the book till ai finish reading it. Will be updating soon.Update: So far I want to keep reading. One problem I had initially with this book is that for the first few chapters, the descriptions are unclear. Things are happening too fast without any explanation. However it slows down and easy to read after the first few chapters. I think it needs to be cut out of the book or explained a little more, the first few chapters I mean.I knew before starting that this was the 3rd book of a series and while I am reading, it does feel like I am late too the party. The plot moves fast like the final battle of any epic, throughout this book. I have yet to finish it and thus will keep updating.

Um wow-- this is the best work of High Fantasy I have read since Patrick Rothfuss released In the Name of the Wind-- and that is saying a lot. The charters are well drawn and detailed and the world has depth and history. I literally could not put this book down. I am amazed by Locke's writing and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
