About this audiobook

You have been lied to! Have you been deceived?

Through a nationwide survey and in-depth discussion groups, Nancy and Dannah have listened carefully to the heart of your generation. And these are some things they’ve heard:

“I know God should be the only thing that satisfies, but if it could be Him and my friends, then I could be happy.”

“It seems like I have been struggling with depression forever. I always feel like I am not good enough.”

“I tell myself that I don’t really listen to the song lyrics, BUT once I hear it a few times and start thinking about what they’re saying I realize that it’s too late. It’s already stuck in my head.”

Maybe you can identify. Trying to listen to the right voices can be difficult. Maybe your heart is telling you that some things in your life are way off course. Certain habits and relationships have left you confused and lonely. This is not the way it’s supposed to be.

In this audiobook, Nancy and Dannah expose 25 of the lies most commonly believed by your generation. They share real-life accounts from some of the young women they interviewed, along with honest stories about how they’ve overcome lies they believed themselves. They get down in the trenches of the battle with you. Best of all, they’ll show you how to be set free by the Truth.

The underlying concept was great. We do need to learn to process life through a biblical lens. We do need to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The Bible is the way to accomplish that.

The lies themselves are accurate and timely and there were resources in the back which paired the lies with Scriptural refutation in order to imbibe, meditate, and apply scripture to our situations.

The way issues are specifically addressed are problematic. Other reviews on other platforms referenced a described situation where a father doped his daughter with crystal meth and molested her with the authors going on to blame the girl for her "wrong choices," but that seems to have been edited out of the version I read. (Whew!) There were a sufficiency of other problematic ideas left, though. Things like mental health issues are because of unaddressed sin, eating disorders are described as "acting out," projections of Western thought processes and values on an Eastern storyline, promulgates marriage and children as a mandate with "a few exceptions" rather than it being a decision based on God's leading ranked among the problematic processing demonstrated in this book.

Keep looking. This book ain't it.

I highly recommend this book to all parents who love their teenage girls, so they won't be lost in this broken world.
