Yet another heartbreaking story of love and loss from this most accomplished writer of subtle and understated fiction.

Book was interesting historically. The human story unusual but believable. As with the authors previous books there is an emotional thread that in the end verges on depression. But the protagonist is so English it’s the stiff upper lip approach. Recommend this book most questions are answered which makes the end very rewarding.

My rating is about the audio recording. The reader is fine, much better than most, except for strange erratic speed changes. Even at regular speed sometimes it seems as if the recording is on a faster setting, like a horse in gallop. So I resort to 0.8x speed. However, that at other times feels too slow, like honey dripping off a spoon.

Or is this a technical issue? Never had it on other audiobooks.

An interesting book, written in a way that is as if a friend is retelling you a story captivating yet normal. An easy read which feels as if you have jumped back in time.
