Set in the evening of the British Empire, this is an insightful, compassionate look at the life of an English butler. The novel exposes the elitism and narcissm of the British ruling classes, and how many of those who worked for them bought into their own subjugation.

The Butler Stevens was a very disconcerting voice to have in my ears all day, but a voice that forced me into a different perspective. A very worthwhile listen.

Fantastic. It really evoked a great mixture of emotions within me.. The language was superb and well read... such an important component.
Not quite as animated as I often enjoy narrators to be.. many would say that it was a good thing. Myself included in this case.
