About this audiobook

LIFEBLOCKERS are the obstacles that prevent you from living the life you want for yourself. LIFEBLOCKERS include emotions, thoughts, behaviors, relationships and circumstances that interfere with pursuing your true goals and desires.

LIFEBLOCKERS: The Sleep Edition is the first book in the LIFEBLOCKERS series written by clinical psychologist, Dr. Lillian Nejad,
and aims to help you address your difficulties related to insomnia. Insomnia is the ultimate LIFEBLOCKER because getting enough sleep is

absolutely necessary for your health and well-being and a prolonged lack of sleep can have a negative impact on all aspects of your life.

Each chapter in this book targets a different factor that can interfere with your sleep: the environment, why you do during the day,
what you do before you go to bed, unhelpful thoughts, and other problems and disorders you may have in addition to insomnia.

After reading this book, you will be able to:

• identify whether you have insomnia

• use evidence-based strategies that help manage your environment, thoughts, behaviors, and emotions to improve your ability to fall
asleep and stay asleep, and

• ascertain whether self-help is sufficient or whether you require specialist professional treatment to overcome insomnia.

Consider Lillian your self-help curator ensuring you get the REAL facts based on REAL evidence on how to overcome insomnia.

It’s time to assert yourself: “Insomnia—stop lifeblocking me!”

Narration: 6/5 -- Most narrators talk to fast for me, and when slowed down their voices sounds weird, so I was delighted by Dr. Nejad's slow, steady voice with plenty of space to easily make bookmarks. I have a hearing problem that makes most female (and even some male) voices a bit unpleasant to listen to. Hers is not high-pitched. In fact, her voice is very soothing, more like Reveen the 1960s hypnotist. Best narrator so far out of a few dozen books listened to on Scribd. My only question is was she being paid by the minute so had a financial motivation to speak so wonderfully slowly?

Writing: 4.5/5 -- No fancy words, no clever writing. Just simple facts of sleep.

Content: 5/5 -- The introductory summation of common sleep issues. She is a clinical psychologist practicing in Australia, using evidence-based skills and strategies. She suggests how to decide whether one needs professional help versus self-help. She does mention the price of various online sleep therapy programs.

Comments: Several times she does advertise her CD and clinical practice (I suspect a motivator of producing this book) but she appears to be not sneaking that in. I have no idea if she has a financial interest in the multiple products and websites she mentions. My first impression was that this book was going to be advertorial after she slammed the danger of listening to non-pros, but after completing the book, I believe that such isn't an accurate description of this audio book. I could however do without the seven minutes of preamble. I got several useful strategies from this book, including the 'worry box' and sleep deprivation therapy (what my sleep specialist psychiatrist in Kolkata recommended after melatonin).
