      Nalini Singh is one of the few authors who has never let me down, I preorder her books the second they pop up on amazon, devour them the minute I can get hold of them and I always know that I'm in for heartwarming romance, fantastic characters, and wonderful world-building. Her Psy-Changeling series is one of the best paranormal romance series out there and this new second phase of the series is proving that she's still at the top of her game. As much as I love the SnowDancer and DarkRiver packs I'm really enjoying the expansion of this world first with the bears in Silver Silence and now getting to know the water changelings of BlackSea in Ocean Light.

      Bowen has always been a character I've been curious about, as the human leader of the Alliance he has a lot of power in his hands but the ticking time bomb of the telepathic blocker implanted in his brain has him desperately looking for answers. Then there was the shocking attack in the last book which of course left me even more keen to get answers. He's such a sweet hero, I loved how open and honest he was with Kaia from the very beginning and how determined he was to make the most of the time he had left if they weren't able to fix his implant safely. I've always admired the way he wanted to put humans on the same playing field as the Changelings and Psy too, even though humans are physically weaker than the Changelings and defenseless against most Psy telepathic abilities they vastly outnumber those two groups and Bowen is fighting for equality amongst the races.

      Kaia is a character we've not met before but she was brilliant too, very intelligent but the best thing about her was her huge heart and the way she cared for everyone in her circle. Kaia is the kind of person that is always there to offer a shoulder to cry on or moral support but who never wants to burden anyone with her own problems so she always sees to her own needs last. Bowen saw that immediately and went to great effort to show her how important she was to him. They fit together really well and balanced each other out in a lot of ways.

      There is no denying that the first half of Ocean Light is a little slower-paced and more character-driven than most books in this series, the action doesn't really pick up until later on but I was having so much fun exploring BlackSea's underwater home and meeting so many different water changelings (whales, turtles, sharks and so many more - including ones with tentacles!) that I really enjoyed the change of pace. Later on, as the danger increased and things get more complicated I was so fully invested in the characters that I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the story would end. This was another fantastic installment in the series and I can't wait to find out who will be the stars of the next one!

      This second book of the Psy-Changeling Trinity series concentrates on Bowen Knight who is in charge of the Human Alliance. The story begins with him becoming conscious and in the care of underwater changelings. Dr. Atalina Kahananui might have a way to keep the chip in his head that protects him from Psy mind invasion from going bad and killing him. The only problem is that there is a 95% chance that her procedure will leave him brain dead. Kaia Luna is helping her cousin Atie but her main job is being a chef. She delights in feeding all of her clanmates and taking care of them. She also becomes interested in Bo and Bo is equally intrigued by her. But, besides the medical timebomb that might take them from each other, the fragile peace between the Alliance and BlackSea is being tested. Isolated members of BlackSea are going missing and the clues lead to the Alliance.One of Kaia's childhood friends named Hugo is the latest to disappear. Before he disappeared, he gave Kaia evidence that the Alliance was behind the disappearances. This immediately causes Kaia to mistrust Bowen which throws a crimp in their romance. Meanwhile, Bowen wants to clean his own house and make sure that there are no traitors in his organization while he is still in his right mind.Both Kaia and Bo had childhood traumas that have impacts on their relationship too. Kaia fears the land and blames humans for the death of her parents when she was seven. And Bo was assaulted and mind raped by a Psy when he was a boy which has made him distrustful of telepaths. What they have in common is stronger than their differences though. Both are honorable and loyal and willing to do anything for their people. This was a great romance and an engaging mystery too. I liked the way Bo and BlackSea worked together to track down their various traitors. I loved getting to know more about BlackSea whose changelings have made some appearances in earlier stories and finding out more about their world. I liked the focus on Bo and the ties he was trying to build with the changelings and even with Kaleb Krychek.

      This one deals with the aquatic changelings and trying to save Bowen from the chip he had implanted in his head. Bowen is thought to be dead by almost everyone he knows after taking a bullet to the heart. But due to some fast work by members of the Alliance he is moved to a Black Sea instillation in the ocean where scientists are working hard with new tech to neutralize the failing psy blocking chip in his head. Once the chip fails it will kill him and there are other people with the chip that will be in the same boat he is in now if the solution doesn’t work. Even with a slim chance at getting the chip fixed Bowne is determined to go through with the experimental treatment and also woo Kaia. Kaia is a former scientist and currently a chef on the station and really doesn’t want to lose her heart to this man that she feels a great attraction to. The book is a race to see if they will be able to save Bowen before the chip does him in and as usual there are lots of heartfelt scenes between the two of them. Another great book in the series but not one that moves the overall plot much.

      I enjoyed this.Bowen is shot (second book in a row with a man being shot and being minded by a woman) He is sent to recover in an underwater city where they think they may have a way to mend the chip in his brain. The procedure may also kill him.Kaia lives in the underwater habitat and likes her life there. Bowen is a disruption and she's not sure what she thinks about him. Some of her people are going missing and the evidence shows that the human grouping that Bowen leads are responsible. However the man she meets is more honourable than that.There are secrets and lies and a lot of complicated politics and Bowen may die or be left brain dead if this procedure goes wrong. It's interesting. Again, the man in this story is dealing with supporting rather than taking over from the woman and he communicates with her. I'm enjoying this move in fiction. Strong men who don't need to prove anything.

      I love this series, and I liked this book as well, but I think I was not personally in the mood to be introduced to a slew of new characters just yet. I did enjoy it though. (3.5 stars)

      Loved this latest installment in the Psi-Changling series, though it was NOTHING like I'd expected. Yes, there were a few sex scenes, but they weren't too obnoxious and I was able to skim over them easily and get back to the action. Speaking of which, this was a bit light on action and didn't advance the overarching Trinity arc that much, but I loved reading about life in a biosphere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and meeting a bunch of new characters, plus some of my favorite characters from other books were there too, particularly Kaleb and Sahara, who made the ending one of my favorites of all the books. I got this book free from First-To-Read for an honest review.
