The second Atlas Catesby historical mystery begins when the woman he's been trying to forget asks him to solve the mystery of the death of her maid's brother. Atlas is very good at puzzles and is intrigued by this mystery. He is also the fourth son of a newly minted baron - aristocratic but on the lowest end of the scale. Lady Roslyn Sterling is the sister of a duke and way above him in wealth and the ranking of society. Atlas feels that he can not have any sort of relationship with her despite the fact the he loves her. She is not convinced and is determined to show them how well they would suit, in her subtle and ladylike way.As Atlas investigates Gordon Davis he uncovers more and more people who would have wanted him dead. Davis was an attractive and charming man from the lower class who wanted to raise his social status by marrying up. He carried on affairs with and aristocratic lady and a wealthy businessman's daughter. While he was a footman, he also accompanied two young aristocratic ladies on their shopping expedition for "naughty" books which gave him blackmail material to use with their fathers. One of the fathers is the wealthy peer who is courting Lady Roslyn and who asks that Atlas back off to allow him to court her. Davis was poisoned with arsenic which was a relatively common chemical of the day. It was used in industry including the dye factory where Davis worked after losing his position as a footman. It was also sometimes used medicinally for clearing complexions and to increase vigor. Atlas and is new valet Jamie need to check the poison books of the pharmacies near the suspects to find out who bought the arsenic and who poisoned Davis. I enjoyed the setting of this story. I also enjoyed Atlas Catesby who is an honorable man and a great puzzle solver. I have hopes for the relationship of Lilliana and Atlas and look forward to more books in the series to see how it progresses.

The second installment in D.M. Quincy's Atlas Catesby series, Murder in Bloomsbury is a beguiling historical mystery.

Atlas Catesby has not been home long from his latest travels when he unexpectedly teams up with Lady Roslyn Lilliana Sterling Warwick to investigate the death of Gordon Davis, the brother of Lilliana’s maid, Tacy.  Gordon died from an overdose of arsenic and his death has been ruled accidental.  However, there are enough inconsistencies surrounding his death that Atlas agrees there is chance foul play might be involved, so he and Lilliana begin their investigation.

Atlas quickly discovers that Gordon had no shortage of enemies. He was incredibly good looking and he was well liked by the ladies. He definitely had aspirations of rising above his lower class status and he had no trouble turning the heads of aristocratic young women. Atlas also learns that Davis lost more than a few positions over his improper relationships. He also hears a rumor about Gordon's ongoing romance with a married woman whom he supposedly truly loved.  He and Lilliana quickly determine that Gordon was an indiscriminate lover who did not care if he ruined the young ladies' reputations and he was quick to use blackmail to line his pockets.

In between the investigation, Atlas tries to keep his distance from Lilliana due to their complicated history together. He holds her in the highest esteem so he wants nothing but the best for her and her two young sons. Atlas is dismayed by the news that she is being courted by the Marquess of Roxbury but he also knows the Marquess can offer her everything she deserves in life.  But will Lilliana agree with Atlas's assessment?

Murder in Bloomsbury  is a fast-paced mystery with a charming cast of characters. Atlas is quite clever and his penchant for solving puzzles serves him well as he tries to unearth the truth about Gordon's death. Lilliana is a strong and independent woman who knows her own mind and does not hesitate to go after what she wants. D.M. Quincy brings the setting and time period vividly to life. An absolutely delightful addition to the Atlas Catesby series that will leave readers eagerly awaiting Atlas and Lilliana's next adventure.

Actually this book was quite entertaining, it held my interest, & I even liked the characters.... This series is similar to the Charles Lenox series by Charles Finch and since there has yet to be a new installment, this filled in quite well. But unlike the Charles Lenox series, this book has a lighter less formal tone.Atlas Catesby is a member of the aristocracy and an adventurer. The previous year saw him attempting to clear both his & Lady Lilliana Warwick's names of murder. Now as he has hoped to relieve his memory & heart of lady Lilliana, he finds himself once again in close dealings with her, while attempting to suss out a murderer. The contemptible brother of Lady Lillliana's maid has been found dead. Authorities are calling his death an accident, but the maid insists it was murder. The dead man was a charmer of women of all stations of life and more than one person had reason to kill him....Nicely written, easy & entertaining to read.

In Regency London, Atlas Catesby, the fourth-born son of a Baron, has tried for nearly a year to get over his feelings for widowed Lady Lilliana Warwick. Unfortunately, when Lady Lilliana’s maid’s brother dies suddenly, Lady Lilliana summons Atlas to investigate. He soon finds that things are not what they seem. Although the coroner has ruled Gordon Davis’s death an accidental overdose of arsenic, Atlas has reason to believe that Davis has been murdered. Following the clues, Atlas finds that there are many who may have wanted Davis dead, including a high-born woman whom Davis was seducing to obtain her wealth. However, Atlas has his own problems – he realizes he still has feelings for Lady Lilliana when the Marquess of Roxbury, who wants to court her, warns Atlas away.Murder in Bloomsbury is the second book in DM Quincy’s Atlas Catesby series. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books in exchange for an honest review. Not having read the first in the series, I was still able to follow along quite well, and I believe that this book can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed it and plan to read the first book. I thought the story flowed well and it was easy to read. The mystery was well-plotted, and there were several suspects to keep one guessing. While I’m generally not a big fan of romance in a mystery unless it takes a very secondary role, I did discover myself rooting for Atlas to win Lady Lilliana’s affections, or perhaps for Lady Lilliana to win Atlas’s affections. I didn’t note any glaring historical inaccuracies which might distract me.I recommend this to anyone who likes cozy historical mysteries, especially with a hint of romance.

His research finds numerous people, women as well as men, who were unhappy with Davis' behaviors.Love how the characters interact as well as the portrayal of the period.
