About this audiobook

The author of nearly two dozen bestsellers, including Orchid Beach and Swimming to Catalina, Stuart Woods unfailingly entertains legions of fans with his suspenseful novels. Fifth in the series featuring the dashing, sophisticated Stone Barrington, this page-turner offers nonstop action.

Stone and his ex-partner, Dino, are facing every policeman’s worst fear. The people close to them are being murdered, probably by someone the two of them sent to prison in the past. To complicate matters, Stone finds himself involved in a distracting relationship with a woman who may be as dangerous as she is beautiful. As the body count multiplies, Stone and Dino race against time to find clues to the brilliant killer’s identity.

Through glitzy restaurants, dark back alleys, and posh summer communities, the suave Stone Barrington faces mobsters, a bomber, and a former lover to get his man.

“After nearly two dozen books, Woods can still surprise readers.”—Booklist

It was so-so. Didn't enjoy this story as much as others.

Not a man to dwell on the past, Stone Barrington has no choice but to rattle old skeletons when the people closest to him start dying, and he has little to go on but the suspicion that the killer might be someone he once knew. The trip down memory lane isn't all bad though, for it reunites Stone withhis ex-partner Dino Bachetti, now head of detectives in the nineteenth precinct. Trying to find a brilliant killer in a sea of old faces is difficult enough without Stone's former love, Arrington, now Mrs. Vance Calder, resurfacing too - especially when she sets off her own fireworks coming nose to nose with his latest flame, a Mafia princess as beautiful as she is dangerous.

I'm enjoying reading the series. Woods always writes a pretty good story that is hard to put down. Our hero, Stone Barrington, is literally a crime solving chick magnet and this book is no different. This is the 5th book in the series; however, I've read #6 and looked for clues about future plot angles and characters in #5. They are really subtle. Just read and enjoy...don't overthink. #7 next month.

Best Stone Barrington yet. Moves quickly and Woods established a connection to the reader with his fringe characters as well here, plus Stone bags another babe or two. I liked the tension Woods created in this one.
