About this audiobook
Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader team up against a threat to the Empire in this thrilling novel from bestselling author Timothy Zahn.
"I have sensed a disturbance in the Force."
Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root—its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn. Fierce rivals for the emperor's favor, and outspoken adversaries on Imperial affairs—including the Death Star project—the formidable pair seem unlikely partners for such a crucial mission. But the Emperor knows it's not the first time Vader and Thrawn have joined forces. And there's more behind his royal command than either man suspects.
In what seems like a lifetime ago, General Anakin Skywalker of the Galactic Republic, and Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo, officer of the Chiss Ascendancy, crossed paths for the first time. One on a desperate personal quest, the other with motives unknown . . . and undisclosed. But facing a gauntlet of dangers on a far-flung world, they forged an uneasy alliance—neither remotely aware of what their futures held in store.
Now, thrust together once more, they find themselves bound again for the planet where they once fought side by side. There they will be doubly challenged—by a test of their allegiance to the Empire . . . and an enemy that threatens even their combined might.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was great to see two powerhouses in Thrawn and Vader collide this book. I really enjoyed the comparison and familiarity of their first meeting during the Clone Wars to their present encounter at the height of the Empire. Zahn delivers, as expected. The story hops back and forth between these two eras to provide even more opportunity to marvel at Thrawn’s deductive genius. Mark Thompson, as always, does an amazing job wth familiar and new voices alike. As good, perhaps slightly above the first.... simply because Vader is more interesting than Governor Pryce!
I need to see Thrawn on the big screen. He’s just so fascinating. Highly recommended! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Truly one of Timothy Zahn's best works. A fabulous re imaginings of Grand Admiral Thrawn with a new twist of having a relationship with Anikin Skywalker and by extension Darth Vader. 10 out of 10 highly recommend!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A fun sequel. Felt a little more muddled than the first, especially some of the action sequences, but good enough that I'm curious to see where the plot goes in the sequel.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Not as good as the first novel, but I still love it so much!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The narrator made Anakin sound like a whiny surfer dude-bro most of the time, I think the whole Anakin/Padme/Thrawn stuff could have been cut way back (mostly due to the tediousness of most of it and that Padme is terrible.) The sound effects were also distracting and frankly annoying most of the time. Even without those complaints, I don’t believe the book to be all that good. It will be a bit before I venture into the third book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As a non starwars fan. I have a much greater affinity for the entire series after this book. A great production . That coming from a non sci fi reader.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Exactly what the Star Wars franchise needs right now... now if only they could turn this into a movie or series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely fantastic story of two of the most intriguing villians in the SW universe. Zahn still has it.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Thrawn has become one of my favorite characters of the Star Wars universe. I had long hoped that the original Thrawn Trilogy would be made into SW 7, 8, and 9, but Disney killed that hope (ironically) when they rebooted the films and invalidated the expanded universe beyond RotJ. So I was skeptical about the new Thrawn books. But I have been pleasantly surprised. Both books have told compelling stories that honor the essence of the character and build on his potential.
Now, if only they could do with Mara Jade what they did with Thrawn …1 person found this helpful
