      As a Quaker who shares these roots, I found this book very engaging. It is beautifully done, quite believable and well worth the read. I loved the way her character was so true to the central tenants of Quakerism and how the author also reflected on how the Friends have become more forward thinking and open. She would have been highly regarded for the strength of her commitment to her inner guidance in more current times.

      There were parts that I enjoyed and parts that dragged. I'm not sure what the present day sequences added to the story. And the only character that I really liked only appeared towards the end of the book...

      What a delightful story. It is written as an account of someone’s life (like a biography )and narrated as so. Not something I would have chosen but I was absolutely intrigued and captivated by the developing twists and turns of the main character - Joy. She endured so many things and I couldn’t stop listening.

      A day in the life portrayal of a Quaker girl in the 1600s that follows her family & relationships. I loved the narration-I thought she was perfect and loved her accent + characters’ voices. Is it non-stop action? No! But man, life was hard back in “the olden days” & I found it a fascinating book that delves into the persecution of Quakers that I wasn’t really aware of!

      Wonderful story and reader. Magnificently portrays persecutions and lack of love in the name of sticking to scriptures. Jesus reminds us God is a God of love and nothing we do will make us perfect. We are all sinners but once we know Him and ask forgiveness, we strive to share His love.

      I absolutely loved this book! It was a fascinating historical story of the Quaker "friends" and the movement's arrival in North America. The inclusion of the Lenni Lenapes contact and interactions was a crucial detail.
      I did not find the current characters who found the book to be interesting but understand they were necessary to tie up the loose ends without being distracting. In this they were successful.

      Loved that the setting of the book were in Yorkshire as well as the Philadelphia,PA area.
      Good insights into the Quaker culture. The characters had conviction & courage to live out their ring lives during this period of time.

      This is a fantastic story, but I found myself getting really aggravated with the amount of crap. Joy took from people in her life, but I’m glad she got her due in the end.

      Good solid writing, good descriptions. Trouble identifying with character Rejoice as so pious through 90% of the book. If I had been reading the book instead of listening to it, I would have quit reading it. Took too long to make the character relatable.

      Unexpectedly Wonderful! It started off slow, but I'm am so glad I pushed through. This book is the reason I love historical fiction. It brings the history of the past alive.

      This book is very slow moving. I almost gave up on it a few times but hung in there with it. It feels like a great deal of the book leads up to where things get interesting, 2/3s of the way through the book. If you are looking for a fast-moving read, don’t pick this up.
