    For the past year, Chloe St. John has been working as a K-9 cop with her German shepherd partner, Hank.       Called to Protect is the second book in Eason's Blue Justice series featuring the St. John family comprised mostly of law enforcement personnel. This book focuses on the tragedy related to human trafficking, both the tragedy that leads to it and the tragedy that results from it. Eason graces her readers with cameo appearances by two characters from her Elite Guardians series. For six months Penny St. John, teenage cousin to Officer Chloe St. John, had been missing. Law enforcement, including most of the St. John family, had been actively searching for her. Unlike Rachel MacCullum whose disappearance had gone unreported. Unreported because she was being held as a means of forcing her father, Deputy US Marshal Blake MacCullum, into killing the judge he was assigned to protect. The only place Blake had to turn was to his best friend, FBI Special Agent Linc St. John, and consequently Linc's sister, Chloe. Would the three of them be able to use their available resources in time to save Rachel and to find Penny? Human trafficking is becoming a growing problem in our world today. According to the Polaris website, the International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally, and that it is a $150 billion industry worldwide. Force 4 Compassion's site says that 3,287 people are sold or kidnapped and forced into slavery every day, and that is just the reported cases. I appreciate Lynette Eason using her platform as a novelist to keep this issue in the public eye. Let us all seek to be informed of ways we can be part of the solution. In addition to raising our social consciousness, Called to Protect is a good read. The characters are engaging the plot captivating and well-paced, and the dialogue believable. I highly recommend this book and this author. I thank NetGalley and Revell Publishing for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.       Human trafficking of young women in the Columbia, South Carolina area is the background of this mystery. I found the family relationships hard to follow and thought it very unrealistic that a woman chief of police would have her sons and daughters and so other many relatives working for her. The story itself is interesting as the police track down the ring that is kidnapping young girls and selling them at auctions. There are a number of books in the series that I haven't read. Perhaps if I had the family relationships of the police officers would have been easier to follow.

      I am a fan of fiction that involves cops with their canine partners and was very excited that the second book in the Blue Justice series involved Chloe St. John and her K9 partner Hank. The subject matter for Called to Protect was focused on human trafficking and the St. John family had been deeply affected by it as one of their own had fallen victim. That was nothing that I was expecting and it rocked me to my core. Definitely one of those moments where I wanted to close my eyes and wish the situation away. After being so affected by the human trafficking trade, the St. John family was more aware of cases of that nature and were always looking for possible answers to where their cousin might be.When a drug bust turns into something more sinister, Chloe and Hank are in a unique position to explore a possible connection to what could have happened to her cousin. When a group of girls set to go to “market” are recovered it puts Chloe on the trail of those responsible for her cousin’s disappearance but it also puts her in the middle of a difficult situation filled with blackmail and pressure to murder. Affected by this was US Marshall Blake MacCallum whose daughter had been taken. Chloe’s discovery shed some light on his circumstance, a circumstance that came with possibly disastrous results as Blake was being forced into an unforgivable position.Blake was being blackmailed into killing a judge who may have made one too many enemies. Blake has to kill the judge or he will lose his daughter. A daughter who he has had a difficult relationship with lately. As Blake desperately tries to find a way out of having to kill the judge he has been sworn to protect, he will grasp onto any chance he can. Even when his chance happens to be an attractive police officer with a K9 partner. Together Chloe and Blake will race against the clock to try and save Blake’s daughter, find answers to Chloe’s cousin’s disappearance, and put a stop to a trafficking ring that somehow manages to stay one step ahead of them.Called to Protect was another wonderful addition to the Blue Justice series! It was exciting, suspenseful, and heartbreaking as well. The utter callousness of the traffickers was hard to read, especially hard because this is a truth that many in this world face. So upsetting! There was a lot to love in this story though and I liked the connection between Chloe and Blake. Blake was put in a difficult situation and it was nice to see that he was tempted to make bad choices but that he persevered in the end. Hank had a great role in this story and I liked the partnership between Chloe and him. The action, as always in this series, was a non-stop heart pounding ride as Blake and Chloe were forced into difficult situations where the outcomes were not always pleasant. Although, I did feel that there were parts of the ending that were a little glossed over, I still very much enjoyed reading Called to Protect and will absolutely continue in this series.This review is based on a complimentary book I received from LibraryThing Early Reviewers. What is he supposed to do?Chloe and Hank are at the scene of a semi accident when a startling discovery is made. Their parents are both professionals, being a lawyer and the chief of police and they still make time to spend with all six of their adult children every week. I also liked the K-9 element in this story as I find those dogs incredible at their jobs. I applaud the author for her use of the heinous crime of human trafficking as the focus of the story. The more people aware, the more people can spot someone in need of help. My only negative to this novel is that there was hardly any time spent developing the romance between Blake and Chloe. Readers know Chloe has had a crush on Blake for years and that is about all we read about a possible romance until the last few pages of the story.       Perfect for fans of the Blue Bloods TV show!The main crime fighter focused on in this series book is Chloe St. John, who is a K-9 cop paired with a German shepherd named Hank. Chloe is called upon to help with a case that leads to uncovering a human trafficking ring. The fact that a cousin has become one of the victims ups the ante as Chloe works with other members of her crime fighting family to find her cousin and stop the bad guys. Along the way, she meets Blake - a US Marshall whose daughter has also been kidnapped. Romantic sparks may fly between these two - but first they must find the human traffickers and keep a Judge from being killed.This was a "fun" read in that the author did a good job creating suspenseful scenes that kept the action moving. I especially remember the scenes that focused on the kidnapped girl and her struggle to escape. I would definitely recommend this to fans of suspense fiction featuring different types of professional crime fighters working together.

      Thoroughly enjoyed the suspense in this series. The hostage situations had me on the edge of my seat, biting my fingernails in the hopes that everything turned out okay.I can't wait to read about the rest of the siblings and their careers.

      Lynette Eason is back with another action- and emotion-packed suspense novel - And this one does not disappoint. Even the cover is gorgeous.

      I loved the two main characters. Blake MacCallum was a super sweet and incredibly realistic character, and I loved his daddy's heart and relationship with his daughter. Chloe is also a fabulous character; I loved her compassionate, empathetic heart mixed with a hefty dose of spunk. Chloe and Blake's relationship was spot-on. I appreciated the slow, sweet romance not based on physical attraction as opposed to the "insta-love" shallow romances portrayed in novels so frequently these days. The secondary cast of Brady, Linc, Izzy, etc, was great, as well. I loved the cameo appearances of Daniel Matthews and Quinn Holcombe (I may or may not have squealed when Quinn showed up on the rooftop. That was awesome. :D) from Eason's Elite Guardians series. Loved that touch, although I found it slightly odd that there weren't the same connections to that series in Oath of Honor.

      The plot was sound and the action and suspense kept me reading. Finished this one in less than 24 hours. I was slightly concerned about the subject matter (human trafficking), but Eason did a wonderful job of showing this very real, relevant, and horrendous issue without going into too much gruesome detail. Living in one of the top areas for human trafficking in the country, this was very eye-opening.

      Probably the thing I love most about this series is the family dynamic. Familysibling relationships are so infrequently portrayed in fiction, or if they are, they don't feel realistic. But the Blue Justice series does a great job with the family relationships, and the sibling banter is always epic.

      All in all, I greatly enjoyed Called to Protect, and am on the edge of my seat waiting for book 3! Highly recommend this series.

      CONTENT NOTE: Recommended for ages 17 . There is a fair amount of violence and some detailing of human trafficking, as well as some light romance. Girls are kidnapped, caged, starved, beaten, and sold. Mentions of some girls being more desirable because they are virgins. Lots of guns, attempted murder, bombs, etc. Also some light romance. A few hugs, not-detailed kisses, physical attraction, etc.

      I found this book rather difficult to read due to the subject matter. Ms. Eason tackles the horrible subject of human trafficking – and the story is rather hard to read at times. It isn’t graphic – but just thinking about what was happening to these girls was hard to do. The book tells a good story – there is a little romance (very little) – and a good mystery. Although this is the second book in Lynette Eason’s Blue Justice series, it (and the first one) can be read as stand-alone novels. The family the series is about is engaging – so I will continue to read books in this series – but this one probably won’t be my favorite. I was given this book by LibraryThing and have tried to put my honest feelings in this review.

      This is Book 2 in the Blue Justice series. I always love the books written by this author and have never been disappointed. I love a hole and Blake. They are so good together. It would be hard to be part of a cop family. I think everyone would expect so much from you. This topic of human trafficking is a very scary topic. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

      If you like the TV show Blue Bloods, then you are going to love Lynette Eason’s Blue Justice series. The second installment, Called to Protect, follows Chloe St. John the K-9 officer who is part of a large family with ties to multi-agency law enforcement. As a team, Chloe and Hank can ferret out illegal drugs or track missing persons or fleeing suspects. Their expertise is integral to the investigation that includes human trafficking and threats against a judge. I loved this action-packed romantic suspense novel and give it a recommended rating.A number of St. John siblings and cousins are involved in Called to Protect, but Chloe is the main focus of this book. I really like the ensemble cast of characters and enjoy getting an in-depth look into one or two with each book in the series. Chloe joins Federal Marshall Blake MacCallum in this intense and highly personal case. There’s a lot going on — assassination attempts, missing girls, and bad guys galore — keeping the characters and readers on their toes as the plot twists and turns. There are plenty of surprises to keep you guessing. Called to Protect is romantic suspense, but I appreciate the way the author takes it slow. The relationship between Chloe and Blake evolves naturally and realistically, especially in light of the seriousness of the subject matter. The main characters are Christians, and their faith is also realistically portrayed.Called to Protect can definitely be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading it after book 1, Oath of Honor. That way you’ll be all caught up when book 3, Code of Valor, releases in January 2019.       I really liked this second one in the Blue Justice series. It was presented in a way that caused me to remember and realize that human trafficking is real and can happen anywhere. The characters have flaws like we all do and it was nice to see them trusting God for the outcome of their situation. Looking forward to the next one!

      I just finished the second book in the Blue Justice series, and a warning, once you turn that first page the nonstop action is going to make you keep turning and gasping, as the shoes start to drop. This one is just as good as the first, and we are with the St. John family, and mainly Chloe and her K-9 Hank, but other members of this police family are here.The book deals with the tough subject of human trafficking and we meet it first hand when a member of their family goes up missing.While the author is giving us different family relationships here, and there is more than one, we deal with murder as a way of shutting someone up, there doesn’t seem to be any regard for human life, and when the final move is shown it holds many surprises. A don’t miss book, with a final tease at the end!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell and was not required to give a positive review.

      I could not put this book down, this tale had me sitting on the edge of my seat for the last 3 days. Its main theme is about human trafficking and I can't begin to say how true and real that it. I really like chloe and her K-9 dog being used throughout the story the only hard part was trying to keep straight the character because the majority of them are family to chloe and they all work in some type of Law enforcement court type jobs. But over all I thought the story was great!

      Called to Protect is book 2 in the Blue Justice series. I think I like this one better than the first one! These books just keep getting better and better. This book deals with a heavy topic which is the topic of human trafficking of teen girls. Each of the Blue Justice series focuses on a member of the St. John family. This one is on Chloe whose partner is a search dog. I could not put this book down once I started reading it. With any Lynette Eason book. It seems like at every turn someone was passing on information. There are some twists in the book that will keep you guessing. There is a teaser at the end of the book for the next novel which will feature Chloe's brother Brady. I can't wait to read that one.

      In another law-related novel, Lynette Easton has hit a home run with a murder mystery, human trafficking and a great romance as well.Officer Chloe St. John and her dog Hank hit the ground running in this story. Finding a van not full of drugs but of people isn’t the way she wanted to begin her day. The St. John family is wired into all the law enforcement agencies in the area so a distress call gets everyone involved. Blake McCallum, Deputy Marshal is also involved in this but from a much different angle. He is assigned to protect judge who is about to rule on a much stricter human trafficking bill. Blake’s daughter has been taken and the kidnappers are threatening to kill her unless Blake kills the judge,All this and more make up a great tale for beach or front porch. It follows another great story by same author, Oath of Honor. Get it as well.

I found it difficult to keep some of the characters straight, possibly because I have not read the first book. The main plot is well-developed, but the sub-plots involving Blake's dying father and Chloe's missing niece do not contribute much to the story. Recommended to readers of Dee Henderson's O'Malleys series.

      A decent story that held my interest. As a romantic suspense novel, I found the suspense interesting, but the romantic relationship was pointless and required a suspension of disbelief. Not the best book of this kind that I've read, but a good diversion. I didn't feel my time was wasted.

      Better than the first. Well written story about a very modern crime. Very believable. I loved Chloe and Hank and feel they should be in every novel. Can not wait for the rest of this series and meeting every one of the St John's.

      I enjoyed this book very much. I had read the first book in this series and couldn't wait for this one. I read it in just one day. It kept my attention throughout and was fast paced. There were many twists and turns in the plot which I enjoyed as it was never boring. I will definitely read the next book in this series when it comes out.

      Very good book! This is the first book by this author I've ever read and I've already been looking for others to read. It kept me guessing on who was doing what. I did guess who done it but not until the next to last chapter. I enjoyed not only the mystery but the humanity of the participants in the story. There were no superhero's, just ordinary people doing their jobs. I read the book in two days! Definitely will be recommended this author to others and will be reading more of her books.

      Lynette Eason is one of my new favorite authors. I enjoy the mix of mystery/suspense and romance that she weaves together--along with using one of the current hot topics: human trafficking.Penny, a cousin of the St. John family, is abducted by a man she thinks is her boyfriend. Six months later, Blake MacCallum's daughter Rachel is kidnapped in an attempt to get him to murder a judge he's protecting. The human trafficking is discovered by accident when there is a wreck on a bridge. Rachel is one of the girls found, but then she makes a bad decision to follow one of the men who abducted her and ends up back at the house where she was held. I wish she would have been smarter and trusted the police or her father to find the others using the information she could give them and/or helping to convince the other girls to give what information they could to the police. She does make a good decision then to try to get help, but ends up recaptured. One of the ideas explored is that do abusers breed abusers? In the MacCallums case, though their father was abused as a child and apparently abused his sons, the sons have come out appearing as non-abusers, as did their uncle (who was adopted at age 6). It also appears some of the perpetrators were foster children and considered themselves brothers. Rachel seems to both want and not want her father to want her and love her. She is convinced that he doesn't want her--that's explained at the end. But I never got the sense that he didn't want her or didn't care about her. I wish the author had explained a bit more about the DPM/pod she used. I thought it was a type of insulin pump until she got to the hospital and said that the pods wouldn't help her without her DPM which she didn't have with her. I guessed how the girls were being bought before it was revealed.Hank is a very well trained K-9 dog. I'm glad he could play a prominent part in the story.
