About this audiobook
Fully updated and revised, Donald Rumbelow's classic work is the ultimate examination of the facts, theories, fictions, and fascinations surrounding the greatest whodunit in history.
Laying out all the evidence in the most comprehensive summary ever written about the Ripper, this book, by a London police officer and crime authority, has subjected every theory-including those that have emerged in recent years-to the same deep scrutiny. The author also examines the mythology surrounding the case and provides some fascinating insights into the portrayal of the Ripper on stage and screen and on the printed page. More seriously, he also examines the horrifying parallel crimes of the Düsseldorf Ripper and the Yorkshire Ripper in an attempt to throw further light on the atrocities of Victorian London.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was the first Ripper book I ever read, so I gratefully blame Donald Rumbelow for my "addiction." Some of the info may be a bit dated, but this is still one of the better overall views of the case. VERY difficult to put down.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Excellent introduction to the Jack the Ripper crimes, the suspects and theories as well as the impact on our culture. Rumbelow is very readable.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I got this copy years ago and just got around to reading it. It is a larger sized paperback and signed by the author (Donald Rumbelow) which I had not expected.Rumbelow really has a lot of information and takes you through with a neutrality so you can make your own decisions. I am a person who is really into the information regarding Jack the Ripper and the Whitechapel murders both ones that are attributed to him and ones that are not. This is a very well put together book and an enjoyable read but to warn the squeamish: it is a bit graphic in details as well as photographs.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Read when I was 13. My first foray into the tantalizing morass of speculative Ripperology.
Jack the Ripper's dead,
And lying on his bed.
He cut his throat
With Sunlight soap.
Jack the Ripper's dead. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5he is a great tour guide...walking tour of Jack the Ripper murders in London..but he is not a good writer...nice guy, however!!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Nothing spectacular, book would have been more useful if the author has included a simple amp that indicated the dates and locations of the Whitechapel murders. Was also wishing that the author would have presented his own theory of the who teh killer was, rather than just citing other's theories. The chapters on the Duddeldorf killer and Jack the Stripper did not add anything to the book.
