About this audiobook

A picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes the story behind the picture is worth a thousand more. 2 CHILDREN FOR SALE. In 1931, near Philadelphia, ambitious reporter Ellis Reed photographs the gut-wrenching sign posted beside a pair of siblings on a farmhouse porch. With the help of newspaper secretary Lily Palmer, Ellis writes an article to accompany the photo. Capturing the hardships of American families during the Great Depression, the feature story generates national attention and Ellis's career skyrockets. But the piece also leads to consequences more devastating than he and Lily ever imagined -- and it will risk everything they value to unravel the mystery and set things right. Inspired by a newspaper photo that stunned readers throughout the country, Sold on a Monday is a powerful novel of ambition, redemption, love and family.

The characters in this book were so awesome, by the end I felt we were friends and I really knew them. I love the ending and I would most definitely read more from this author!

This was a book club book, and I was worried that it would be a heart wrenching story, and I would be a sobbing mess, but this was not the case, which was a pleasant surprise. This is a sweet, heartfelt, romantic story. The story was engrossing and I finished the audio version in just a few days.

Kindness and care are so rare. They are in this book. Little kids in need, desperate Moms abound. There are kind, brave men here, too. And journalists, the rugged wordsmiths of those days when they were brave and searched out the truth despite any peril to their lives. Great book.

I think this book could have been cut way down with still the same effect. It didn't get really good until about the last third of the book, but it was still a good story & worth the read.

Loved this book. The setting in the 1920's is perfect and the story is both heart touching and positive. Brings the listener back to a simpler time.

An intriguing story from the Depression of the sale of two children ostensibly because of the financial despair of the parents. There are twists, though, especially one involving a less than ethical stunt by a daily newspaper reporter. His well intentioned scheme throws the entire story into a tailspin and makes for a pretty good mystery. One criticism of the book is the somewhat sloppy editing. I found at least three places where typos weren’t corrected, something almost unheard of in today’s world of professional publishing. This is most often seen in self-published books, which I don’t think this book is. Overall, a satisfying read.

Interesting and different story that highlighted a few struggles of the era. I enjoyed the male and female perspectives set in the 1930s. The vocal artist was also good.
