About this audiobook

One of the most universally loved and admired English novels, Pride and Prejudice was penned as a popular entertainment. But the consummate artistry of Jane Austen (1775–1817) transformed this effervescent tale of rural romance into a witty, shrewdly observed satire of English country life that is now regarded as one of the principal treasures of the English language. At the heart of the all-consuming enterprise of marriage is the headstrong Elizabeth Bennet and her aristocratic suitor Fitzwilliam Darcy; two lovers whose pride must be humbled and prejudices dissolved before the novel can come to its splendid conclusion.

Author

Jane Austen

Jane Austen was born in 1775 in rural Hampshire, the daughter of an affluent village rector who encouraged her in her artistic pursuits. In novels such as Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma she developed her subtle analysis of contemporary life through depictions of the middle-classes in small towns. Her sharp wit and incisive portraits of ordinary people have given her novels enduring popularity. She died in 1817.

P&P is one of my favourites, and this version is narrated very well and very enjoyably. Rosamund Pike’s audiobook is my favourite version, but this is a close second.

Left me utterly delightful and happy. So much great insights. Not just a romance, but also a story of family and sisterhood.

My best friend loves this book, and asked my to read it. I don’t understand old English very well on paper, so this audiobook was a good compromise. This reader has a very good reading voice. I listened to this audio book on 1.2 speed, and it was like listening to a normal person talk. I really liked this book!
