About this audiobook

Bram Stoker award-winner Bentley Little cordially invites you to The Resort.

Welcome to The Reata, an exclusive spa isolated in the Arizona desert. Please ignore the strange employees and that unspeakable thing in the pool. And when guests start disappearing, pretend it isn't happening. Enjoy your stay, and relax. Oh...and lock yourself in after dark.

Opulent doesn't begin to describe the Arizona getaway where Lowell Thurman, his wife Rachel, and their three young sons have come for one glorious week. Everything at The Reata is perfect - although Rachel is a bit unnerved by the openly lustful gaze of one of the gardeners, something she doesn't mention to Lowell. Nor does he tell her about the frightening sensation he has in the pool of hands clutching at him, trying to pull him under. After all, when you're in paradise, a few glitches shouldn't spoil the fun.

But the good times come to a screeching halt, when, to the Thurmans' horror, guests begin to disappear. What's happening at the resort? Evil, ancient, and cruel. And unless they can stop it, the Thurmans will be forced to sacrifice at its altar....

Explicit violence.

Many of his plots are similar but his macabre and descriptive details still shock and leave one uncomfortable which is important to me as horror novel enthusiast. I highly enjoyed this book but it was a more than halfway through the book where it started to feel like the plot circled around to the beginning and started over so it was a bit redundant. From then it was rushed to an end that was muddled and left no true resolve. Even so, I was still entertained and eager for more.

Bently little has been my favorite author for nearly over a decade. His writing style does not dwell on the environment details but the building story, character thoughts, and weird occurances. Relatable protagonists for the most part with deep flaws. Can sometimes cross into bizarro horror obscene. His short stories are my favorite. The endings of longer novels can sometimes be a let down since it is quite a build to an apocalyptic situation that almost never gets a satisfying end. I accept that and always love his stories.

Very fresh and lively. Very few lulls in the book. As I find most of the books i.ve enjoyed recently to be older classics this book had a great pace a great consistent tone with a good dose of humor.

Starts out really good and has a lot of fascinating twisted and horrifying stuff going on but eventually just gets a little bit too much and doesn’t really seem to go anywhere great
