    Adele Parks was born in Teesside, North East England. Her first novel, Playing Away, was published in 2000, and since then she's had seventeen international bestsellers, translated into twenty-six languages. She's been an ambassador for The Reading Agency and a judge for the Costa Book Awards, and is a keen supporter of The National Literary Trust. She's lived in Italy, Botswana and London and is now settled in Guildford, Surrey, with her husband, son and cat.

      Melanie is married with 3 children. Her first child, Liam, was the result of a one-night stand when she was in college, and until she met Ben, she raised him on her own. Now, Liam is getting ready to turn 18. Abi, Melanie's best friend in college, is getting a divorce, and has told Melanie she is coming to UK. Melanie invites her to stay with them. Sadly, Abi becomes more entrenched in their family, doing things that are inappropriate. Ben begs Melanie to ask Abi to leave, but Melanie feels that she can't. Abi reminds her of the life she gave up when she decided to leave school and have her child. However, she can't imagine what Abi would do to Melanie's family. Twisty and interesting.

      Melanie and Abigail were friends in their first year of college. When Melanie unexpectedly became pregnant, everything changed as her friends went on to college experiences while she struggled as a single mother and the friendship between the two of them dissolved. Until 18 years later. Melanie is now married to Ben and they have two adorable daughters Imogen and Lily and Ben has become the father of her son, Liam. Abigail’s marriage publicly fell apart and she emailed her old friend Melanie rekindling their friendship. Soon she is on Melanie’s doorstep across the ocean for a visit. A visit that turned into weeks instead of the expected day or two. And while Melanie is ecstatic that she and her friend reconnected and she feels she is experiencing parts of life she’s missed, the rest of her family life is neglected and is becoming chaotic. And before too long, Melanie is wishing she never answered that email.We all sometimes wish we could go back in time and change something in our past. Friends we had and lost that we may have a longing for. Experiences we missed for one reason or another. I understand Melanie’s eagerness to reconnect. I don’t understand how she thought Abi’s practically moving in wouldn’t be a problem. And she never thought or anticipated how it would all explode. This was quite a juicy little tale with lots of twists and turns, some of which I had already figured out but it was fun getting there. And there is lots of betrayal, all over the place. At times I was so frustrated reading; we as the reader, can see the disaster around the corner and are helpless to do anything about it. I have to say that I admire Melanie’s restraint. The characters were very real to me this book sparked up a lot of emotion in me. The last 200 pages or so, I gobbled up in one sitting as I had to know. And while the ending for the most part worked for me, the very last bit did not.I have read some of the earlier books of Adele Parks that were more a chick lit type of book. I was very eager to read her psychological thriller and I wasn’t disappointed.

      I would categorize this book as domestic drama rather than suspense/thriller. A story of revenge and retaliation, it is predictable from the beginning but it does get better near the end. Quick light distracting read but not satisfying or challenging.

      I Invited Her InByAdele ParksWhat it's all about...So...the premise of this book is one of my worst nightmares. You invite an old friend to visit thinking that if she even comes it would be for a day or two or at the most a weekend. Two months later that friend is still there. She uses your bathroom, dresses inappropriately, smokes in your house, drinks all of your wine and rarely contributes anything. Not a meal, not a wash up not even on offer to make tea. This is Melanie and Abigail...Abigail being the visiting friend. Abigail causes upsets within Melanie’s family. Melanie’s husband wants Abigail to leave. He hints...he openly asks when she is leaving but Abigail ignores him. Melanie defends her and really doesn’t want her to leave in spite of the fact that this family’s home life has all but fallen apart. Then something absolutely unthinkable happens. Melanie finally sees her friend for the person she really is...but is it too late?Why I wanted to read it...The cover plus the title plus the synopsis of this book made me really want to read it.What made me truly enjoy this book...Whenever Melanie was just so happy to go out with Abigail, to renew her friendship with Abigail and to do fun girl things with Abigail...I could sense something sinister in Melanie. Melanie was so taken with Abi that she just couldn’t see any faults even when her husband clearly pointed them out to her. This made me want to scream at Melanie to open her eyes to her friend’s selfishness!Why you should read it, too...I literally could not put this book down. It was tense and exciting and the more I read the more I strongly disliked both women. Melanie for her weak attitude and blind adoration of Abi and Abi because I knew she was up to something that was not going to be very nice...and all of this is stemming from a 17 year old event that happened when they were both at University. If this kind of drama appeals to you...you will love this book.I received an advance reader’s copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and Amazon. It was my choice to read and review it.

      I started seeing this book popping up all over the web recently. Thus when I got the chance to read this book, I was excited. Thrillers; especially psychological thrillers are my jam. Yet, it became pretty apparent early on for me that this book was not going to live up to the hype that I had imagined it to be. The storyline is predictable and the characters were not very likable. Melanie was dull as well as too kind, whereas; Abigail was deceitful and horrible towards others. Melanie may have called Abigail a friend but Abigail was more like "friend enemy". For example, when Abigail left her phone out for Melanie to se the video. Melanie just kindly questioned Abigail. It was not until the truth came out and Melanie saw Abigail for who she really was that she finally did something about it. Even, Melanie's husband did not over react. Sadly, I wanted more and didn't get it. Lesson of the day "Be careful who you invite into your home".

Ever since dropping out of school due to an unplanned pregnancy, Melanie has felt alienated from those she left behind. She imagines that they have moved on to bigger and better things with more exciting lives than her own. She had been feeling settled and content after her struggles as a single parent, now blessed with a loving husband and two additional children. Her oldest, Liam, has grown into well-adjusted, promising young man due to Mel’s earlier sacrifices. When she hears that t.v. personality Abigail Curtiz is undergoing a very painful and public divorce, Mel invites her old friend to come stay with her family. Abi is as charismatic and gorgeous as Melanie remembers, and Melanie is dazzled by her incredible lifestyle as a wealthy celebrity. Mel’s husband, Ben, is not quite as impressed when he is forced to watch his wife cater to Abi’s every need and defend Abi’s selfishness. Ben is tasked with running the household alone while the two women revert to the irresponsible days of their youth. What Ben doesn’t know is that Mel is motivated to accommodate Abi due to a hidden wrong-doing she has felt guilty about over all those years. Abi also has ulterior motives for their reunion, and it soon becomes apparent that Abi may be purposefully ripping apart the family bonds that Mel and Ben had believed impenetrable. Parks’ novel notches up the tension in the second half when the focus turns to revenge and betrayal, culminating in a violent act that exposes the women’s secrets. I Invited Her In starts slowly and the female characters border on one-dimensional, but the plot accelerates quickly to a neat conclusion. Fans of Parks and contemporary thrillers might enjoy her new offering – it is not very original or deep, but it certainly is an entertaining read.
