About this audiobook
Stone Barrington faces down danger on New York's mean streets in the latest thriller from perennial fan favorite Stuart Woods.
Upon returning to the states from a European jaunt, Stone Barrington makes the acquaintance of a stunning woman who seems like she could be an ideal candidate to meet some of his professional—and personal—needs. Before long, though, Stone is put to the task of protecting his new hire when New York City is rocked by a series of disturbing crimes, and it looks as if she might be the next target.
In the city that never sleeps there's always a plot being hatched, and the only recourse is constant vigilance and a bit of luck. But if those defensive systems fail, Stone will have to go head-to-head against some of the most dastardly scum he's ever faced . . .
Stuart Woods
Stuart Woods is the author of more than forty novels, including the New York Times bestselling Stone Barrington and Holly Barker series. An avid sailor and pilot, he lives in New York City, Florida, and Maine.

Reviews for Desperate Measures

- Scott StellRating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Woods books are entertaining but a little formulaic. Not a bad read.
- jamespurcellRating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Multiple challenges for Stone as he hires someone, a lovely woman, of course, to be his personal pilot. Meanwhile, someone is raping and killing small blond women from the lower Eastside in Manhattan. Another lady in distress literally falls into his lap and he is off on a quest to help her sheds her avaricious and abusive husband. When his small blonde new pilot disappears he needs to get personally involved. Many cocktails and much fine dining as he and Baccetti seek to resolve the murders. All in all, the usual fast read and interesting insights into the lives of the rich and famous that make this series fun to read.
- carol420Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The description sounds more exciting than the book actually was. Where do these people come from? They throw out terms like "one-hundred million dollars" like everyone has ever even seen one million dollars let alone several hundred of them...they constantly go out to the most expensive restaurants in New York...no McDonalds for these folks. They buy airplanes and houses like they grew on trees...and everything...no matter what it is, always works to their favor. Oh...and there is sex and more sex between all of these events. If you have been following Stone Barrington from the olden days of the series you will just take the whole thing in stride...but you are a newbie you could well have a difficult time taking all of this in.
- buffalogrRating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Barrington writing formula goes one more time. Girlfriend gets killed, Stone solves the murder, Dino acts way below his pay grade as NYC PC. Oh, and Stone gets laid a time or two. All the expected characters are there. For #47, the formulaic writing is still entertaining.
- jfe16Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A series of brutal murders has New York City on edge, forcing Stone Barrington to protect his newly-hired pilot from becoming the next target of the killers. But there’s more trouble on the horizon for Stone as he finds himself in unexpected difficulties. This narrative, the forty-seventh in the Stone Barrington saga, moves along at breakneck speed, making it a quick, enjoyable read. Filled with the travels and trysts and turmoil of the rich and famous, it’s a delightful romp. The expected characters all make an appearance, the plot takes several twists as it slowly unfolds, and readers are sure to find the telling of the tale intriguing enough to keep the pages turning.Recommended.
- jepeters333Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Upon returning to the states from a European jaunt, Stone Barrington makes the acquaintance of a stunning woman who seems like she could be an ideal candidate to meet some of his professional--and personal--needs. Before long, though, Stone is put to the task of protecting his new hire when New York City is rocked by a series of disturbing crimes, and it looks as if she might be the next target. In the city that never sleeps there's always a plot being hatched, and the only recourse is constant vigilance and a bit of luck. But if those defensive systems fail, Stone will have to go head-to-head against some of the most dastardly scum he's ever faced . .
