Connell and Marianne grow up in the same small town in the west of Ireland, but the similarities end there. In school, Connell is popular and well-liked, while Marianne is a loner. But when the two strike up a conversation - awkward but electrifying - something life-changing begins. Normal People is a story of mutual fascination, friendship and love. It takes us from that first conversation to the years beyond, in the company of two people who try to stay apart but find they can't.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Although I loved the characters and the authors style, it seems she got lost in the story and didn’t know where to take them in the end and so she didn’t and the novel ended with no resolution and confusion. Which although some rose-coloured reviews would have us believe was intended, the confused sub-plots and intrigues that were never resolved hint that this book may have got away from the author altogether. Hopefully as she improves she can work out how to resolve the story of these two beautiful characters she’s created but who are now only half-drawn and incomplete.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Going through the motions of your twenties; the self-doubt, confusion and questioning who you are - whether or not you're a good or bad person. And, of course, dating people who are clearly wrong for you but learning what it means to love. Loved this book!

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have mixed feelings. It felt good in parts but also a pastiche of several works before it. I like it but also didn't find it exceptionally engaging throughout

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The plot majorly focuses on the dynamics between the principal characters. Connell and Marianne are drawn to each other over and over again, and the attraction is not just physical, it's intellectual too.
Even though the title is 'Normal People', there is nothing normal about Connell and Marianne. Both deal with different issues such as —a dysfunctional family, different social-economic standing, mental health, and dominance. A soothing listen!1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was enjoying this book to a certain extent but unfortunately found the narrators male accents in particular quite difficult to listen to so I gave up on it. I may possibly read the book instead.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I think the tension between the two characters, the author did a great job with that.I was engrossed totally for a couple of hours. But you know what,it has its flaws,I liked many things in this novel.I liked some parts of the narrative style,I liked the narrators voice and how she could Flick back and forth between other characters.I like how she slips forward to five minutes later or 6 months later.I don't like how lacking in depth characters like Allen and his mother are,I don't like the vagueness of the trauma that Marianne faced. Also like, seriously a character is described as ugly and then described as beautiful? It's just unbelievable or maybe shallow.Idk.Overall a 3.5 /5 The extra descriptions of everything were nice sometimes and annoying at others, also all the vague philosophies *massive eyeroll* Still overall I felt this was more chicklit ish.It has some uniqueness to it I'll admit, that's all.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really well written. It talks about love, friendship, family dynamics, fate and depression. It’s worth everything.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was ok. I see why people loved it, but to be honest I find the characters plain.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good story that addresses the transition to adulthood and a great reading.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not my vibe but I appreciate this take. A little too slow burn for my liking.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Well read story, but found the novel meandering and without an actual ending. The character development just stopped dead, with no real conclusions and plenty of loose ends.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Addictive and gripping read. I loved the characters, the psychology and story of this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5very sad book, the writer expresses herseld so eloquently very impressing
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was just OK. Quite an easy listen or read.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved this book, very well written and a made me really curious.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I’m sorry but that audio litro gives me anxious. Sounds like a robot is reading
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely loved it from start to finish, the ending was perfect
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Many sensitive subjects were included in the book: suicide, depression, sexual violence, and childhood abuse. If I read this when I was younger (the age of highschool and college), I might have related to it more. But a sad and negative book like this at that age must have destroyed my mental health. I don't know when would be the right timing. Summing up, I don't enjoy it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really enjoyed this. It's a small, intimate story in such a good way. Beautifully written too.
