About this audiobook

Two hearts. Twice as vulnerable.

Manhattan, 1850. Born out of wedlock to a wealthy socialite and a nameless immigrant, Cora Lee can mingle with the rich just as easily as she can slip unnoticed into the slums and graveyards of the city. As the only female resurrectionist in New York, she’s carved out a niche procuring bodies afflicted with the strangest of anomalies. Anatomists will pay exorbitant sums for such specimens—dissecting and displaying them for the eager public.

Cora’s specialty is not only profitable, it’s a means to keep a finger on the pulse of those searching for her. She’s the girl born with two hearts—a legend among grave robbers and anatomists—sought after as an endangered prize.

Now, as a series of murders unfolds closer and closer to Cora, she can no longer trust those she holds dear, including the young medical student she’s fallen for. Because someone has no intention of waiting for Cora to die a natural death.

I enjoyed it. Even the romantic aspect was tolerable! It was a fun historical adventure novel with a satisfying ending (and a twist that I should have seen coming but didn't. )

Good medical historical mystery with a tad of romance. A bit too long for my liking especially the middle. It picks up from chapter 25. Unexpected ending

I really like the historical accuracy in this novel, but towards the end the story the events turn a little cliché and the characters’ decisions or motives stop making sense or being as strong as they seemed at the beginning of the story.

While I agree with some of the reviews that the way the ending of this particular title, wrapped up with a little tidy and predictable, sometimes that’s what you want, and they were plenty of interesting, plot, twists, and turns along the way. Some play video games to calm their mind, I love a good story and so prefer audiobooks so that the critical part of my mind is busy with that while the nonverbal side of my brain is focused and humming along working on high skilled crafting tasks.

What I cannot abide is poor narration. So I must admit I happened upon this book because I often search for audiobooks by narrator. Saskia Maarleveld never disappoints.
