As Halloween approaches South Cove, California, four couples get into the spirit of the holiday by conjuring up spirits . . .

The house has sat empty for fifteen years, taking up prime real estate along the picturesque coastline. Built by one of the founders of South Cove, its last known owner, Maryanne Demerit, vanished without a trace. Now her home will be demolished for a condo development, but until then, it's the perfect spot for a Halloween haunted house.

It’s almost Hallowe’en, and four couples take advantage of the opportunity to spend the weekend in a supposedly haunted house, slated for demolition. Ghostly occurrences add to the scary weekend, and yet Jill looks for earthly reasons behind them. The former owner disappeared years ago without a trace, and now, the cranky caretaker warns them they will be locked in once he leaves for the night. Looking to solve the mystery of her disappearance, the couples must decide who is truthful and trustworthy and who is not. This quick read is entertaining, but because of its short length, not as detailed or as developed as some of the novels in this series.

A Deadly Brew was another exciting adventure in Cahoon's Tourist Trap mystery series. Jill, her boyfriend, Greg, and a group of their friends decide to do something special for Halloween. They decide to spend the weekend locked in a "haunted" house that will soon be condemned. The adventure starts out pretty normal until strange things start to happen that make Jill and her friends think the place really is haunted.Cahoon does a great job at setting up a spooky tale that is perfect for the Halloween season or at any time of the year. Jill learns a little more about herself when the house's ghost chooses her to communicate her dilemma. Despite being a shorter story, Cahoon delivers an exciting tale that captures the reader's interest from the very beginning and never lets go. Overall A Deadly Brew is a great read that I would definitely recommend, and I am looking forward to reading Jill's next adventure.Received a copy of A Deadly Brew through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is an interesting Halloween novella in the Tourist Trap Cozy Series.Jill and friends are spending the weekend at a "Haunted House" that is scheduled to be demolished. The owner of the home disappeared 15 years earlier and has never been heard from again. Esmeralda uses her psychic abilities to find clues to this missing woman. If you have not read any other books in this series, this book might feel a bit rushed as you would not know the characters and this book does not give much information in that area. I have read them all and found this a quick and interesting story. There is no murder that they are solving, but more of a mystery. A nice story to keep me interested while waiting for the next full length novel to come out. The publisher, Kensington Books - Lyrical Press, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating and opinions are my own.

Cute.Four couples get together for a weekend of spooky fun for Halloween. They are investigating a house that is stood vacant for the past 15 years. No one knows what happened to the previous owner Maryanne Demerit. But they do know one thing... Maryanne was a witch! This was a cute, short little read. it started off with ghosts and ghouls and kind of went into a who-done-it mystery. It was very much along the lines of the Goosebumps books that we used to read as children only this one is meant for adults. But it does have the same feel as the Goosebumps books.I enjoyed it over all. Like I said it was a quick little read and definitely something nice and spooky for Halloween time, which is always a good thing ?I'm recommending this book to anyone who likes a nice quick, scary ghost story.

A slightly spooky read, perfect for a quick visit to South Cove. In a soon to be torn down house, Jill, Greg and friends find themselves signed up for a weekend lock-in inside the purportedly haunted house. The owner, Maryanne Demerit, having disappeared without a trace years earlier. This was an ideal October read filled with a lot of twists for such a short story. Fans of the series will enjoy this, plus I think it would be a great way to introduce new readers to this small town.

It's almost Halloween and Jill Gardner and friends have agreed to a locked room experience (it's really a house rumored to be haunted). Holding a seance the group is visited by the resident ghost who is searching for her lost child. What happened in the past and why is the house haunted? Great Novella for the Halloween season!

A Deadly Brew by Lynn Cahoon is A Tourist Trap Novella. Jill Gardner owns Coffee, Books and More in South Cove, California. Halloween is approaching, and Jill has various activities planned at the store for her patrons. This weekend, though, Jill and her boyfriend, Greg along with three other couples are going to spend the weekend inside South Cove’s “haunted” mansion. The house has been empty for the last fifteen years since Maryanne Demerit, the last owner, disappeared without a trace. This is the last opportunity for people to see the home before it is demolished for a new condo development. The house has been left as it was when Maryanne went missing. That night they break out the Ouija board and get a ghostly missive. It is just the first. It seems that someone is sending the group messages with clues. What will they uncover? The group is in for a hauntingly good time while locked inside the spooky manor.A Deadly Brew is a well-written and engaging cozy mystery. I do not recommend reading A Deadly Brew on its own. The series contains well-developed characters and a charming small town. Lynn Cahoon created a ghostly short story that I found charming. The mystery is light and can easily be solved before the solution is revealed. However, that did not detract from my reading pleasure. I do wish the story had been slightly longer to allow the mystery to be more developed (twenty-five pages would have made a difference). A Deadly Brew is reminiscent of my favorite scary movie, Rose Red (starring Nancy Travis). A Deadly Brew is short, fun cozy mystery that will put you in the mood for Halloween (I want to start decorating). I cannot wait for the next installment in A Tourist Trap Mystery series.

It's nearing Halloween, and Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books, and More in the small town of South Cove, California, has agreed to spend a weekend in a soon-to-be torn down haunted house, along with her boyfriend Greg King, South Cove's sheriff, and three other couples. Among them is Greg's receptionist and local psychic Esmeralda, who insists that the house really is haunted. When they find a room full of potions they decide to do an impromptu seance that leads them to discover that the the resident ghost is a woman named Maryanne, who was also a witch, but others are not so sure. They also have a partial idea of why she's there - to find her child - Jill's ever-active curiosity takes off, especially after a disturbing dream about Maryanne during which Greg was having trouble waking her. While exploring the house Jill and her friend come across a remarkable scene in what appears to be a library, and it strengthens the idea that something indeed is going on. But it will take the entire group to find the truth of the matter and why Maryanne is still remaining nearby...This is a short story written by the prolific and talented Lynn Cahoon, part of the Tourist Trap Mysteries. Because of some of the things written (a scene involving Sasha, for one) I get the idea that this was written earlier but never published in the order it should have been. However, as far as short stories go it was not only quick, as it was meant to be, but delightfully semi-spooky as well.I rarely read short stories because I don't feel they give enough background nor information before they've ended, but Ms. Cahoon has managed to incorporate our characters well - and if you read it you know them well; if not, I suggest you start with the beginning Guidebook to Murder, because the series will reel you in and you'll want to read the others. The writing is brisk, the mystery well done, the plot line intriguing. Another sparkling tale in the series, which is always welcome.Anyway, it's a delightful tale that doesn't have a scary quality, but still has a couple of nice scenes, and discovering the truth of what happened to Maryanne is not only interesting, it shows us how easily the author can pull us into the story and keep us there to the end. I truly enjoyed this one, and if I had any questions, the only one would be, why didn't Maryanne just stay in Louisiana? Highly recommended.
