About this audiobook

When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here.

It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender-but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right?

Then my favorite guild members-three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages-asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no. They wanted to wrap me up in a pretty ribbon and plunk me in the crosshairs of a murderous rogue to lure him out of hiding.

So that's what we did. And that's why I'm here. About to be kidnapped. Oh, and our grand plan for safely capturing said murderous rogue? Yeah, that completely fell apart about two minutes ago. Why did I agree to this again?

Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen, available summer 2020.

I liked it a little less than the first one, mostly because.it felt Tori was being deliberately obtuse for a lot of it. But overall still loving this series.

The second book was just as good as the first. For me, it’s the right kind of book to suck me into the story as if I’m the protagonist. Like I said in my first review of the first book, this would make a great syfy tv series. There’s still something more special about reading/listening to. To be able to create the world the way you want, to use your imagination. I’m absolutely in love with this series so far. I love the fact that the heroin of this story is a strong female without special powers as of yet anyway. Just her own talent. Can’t wait until next month when I can listen to the next couple.

Just love this series. Thrills, chills and hot guys. AND a dragon or two. The spitfire Tory is just so funny.

Oh the dark druid is intriguing! So are the familiars. Book 3 in the Codex reading order, and Book 2 in the Spellbound series, is very entertaining. Plenty of laughs, mysterious new creatures, the 3 mages, dark arts, a handsome druid and the human Tori bring to life another great adventure. Tori takes on saving a young mythic runaway and what could go wrong. Well everything. It's Tori after all. She lives to act first and think later, like it's a full time job. Packed full of action, I strongly recommend all of the codex series. Written by Annette Marie, who binds together one mystic tale after another.

This originally appeared at The Irresponsible Reader as part of a quick takes post, the point of which is to catch up on my "To Write About" stack—emphasizing pithiness, not thoroughness..---For book 2 to remove our non-magical bartender to a guild of Magic Users from the Guild Members for the majority of the book is a pretty gutsy move. I'm not sure it was the right way to go, and I'm not sure it was successful. But it was gutsy. The story was...okay, I guess. It really didn't do a lot for me, but the last few chapters—pretty much when Tori reunites with her friends made the whole thing worth it. And the Dresden File hat-tip was fantastic.I'm still in on this series/group of series, but I bet when all is said and done, this'll be the one to forget.

Series Info/Source: This is the second book in the Guild Codex: Spellbound series. I borrowed this through Kindle Unlimited. There are going to be seven books total in this series. There is also a sister series to this called Guild Codex: Demonized that weaves in and out of the Spellbound timeline but features different characters. Previous to reading this I have read and enjoyed all of Annette Marie’s other series.Story (5/5): I loved this book even more than the first one. In this book Tori is asked by her three favorite mages to serve as bait to lure out a dangerous rogue mage. What follows is a crazy adventure that Tori could have never imagined or predicted. And yes, there are dragons. Characters (5/5): I absolutely love Tori, she is a normal girl in a crazy situation and really only has her hot temper, sometimes bad attitude, and occasional magical gadgets to get her through things. I love the three bad-ass mages she has befriended. The addition of some new rogue mages (and one super hot murderous rogue mage in particular) really added a lot to the series. Then there were the dragons!!! Tons of amazing characters in this series.Setting (5/5): Much of this story takes place in a completely new setting which I won’t talk about because of spoilers. While I continue to enjoy the crazy atmosphere at the pub, I really enjoyed this new setting as well. I love that we got to meet so many new types of fae creatures. Writing Style (5/5): I love Marie’s writing style, it's fast-paced, easy to read, and contains a lot of humor too. Marie does an amazing job with characterization and action/fight scenes. I love her creative plot ideas and how the story pulls me in and keeps me reading. My Summary (5/5): This was an amazing continuation to this series, I absolutely loved it! I love the fast-pace, fun characters, and creative story in this series. It’s so much fun to read and just a perfect light urban fantasy read. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

4.5Book source ~ Kindle UnlimitedTori Dawson is working as a bartender at the Crow and Hammer. But it’s not just any bar – it’s a guild. For magic users. And she is human. Completely human. Not a lick of magic in her. However, she can earn some money there while her employment paperwork makes it through the red tape that is the MPD before they kick her human non-magical ass out the door. It’s while they are waiting that her three mage buddies decide to ask her to help them with a job. They want to use her as bait for a high value bounty named The Ghost. A little uneasy, but trusting in her magical friends, she agrees. And that’s when things go spectacularly south.Tori, oh, Tori. The things you get yourself into. Book 1 was entertaining and book 2 does not fail in that aspect. There’s humor, hotness, magic, and danger. Plus, a new character is introduced – The Ghost. He’s quite an interesting guy and totally yummy. I love the story, the characters, and the world. I’m practically breaking my arm patting myself on the back for finding this gem of a series. Highly entertaining and just what I love. Stay tuned for Book 3’s review! Because I completely devoured each book that’s out there. A literary glutton? Who, me?

It wasn't long ago that Tori Dawson landed a job as a bartender for a guild of mages. So when her three favorite mages ask for Tori's help catching a notorious rogue, of course she agrees. The fact that Tori's going to be used as bait to lure a felon who is a dark arts master known to abduct young, troubled mythics... yeah, that plan fell apart about two minutes in to the operation.Dark Arts and a Daiquiri is the second in The Guild Codex by Annette Marie. The story continues to be a lot of fun though I found I was missing the guys as Tori went on her own accidental adventure.Tori is as feisty and smart-mouthed as ever. I love it when she refuses to take shit from anyone, even if it would be better for her to shut up at times. We're given a bit of Tori's history which was nice. We're also introduced to a new antagonist called the Ghost. He's quite an interesting character. His magic is completely different than what we've seen so far, which was a great addition to the world. In fact I am loving the world that Marie has created in general. We get to learn more about fae and all the various forms they can take. Plus there's a baby dragon. Who doesn't love a story with a baby dragon? All things considered, I missed the guys enough that I knocked a half star off my rating. I definitely hope there's more Aaron, Kai and Ezra in the next book.

*The three stooges were absent for the most of the middle part.*But that's okay, because Zak was there.*I was shipping Tori with either Kai or Ezra (sorry Aaron); but now that's Zak was introduced, I am shipping her with him.*Tori continues to show that even though she's 'only' a human, she could take names and kick ass.
