About this audiobook

The heart-pounding thriller of a series continues as FBI Special Agent Meg Jennings and her search-and-rescue K-9 companion confront the fury of nature-and the more dangerous nature of man . . . In the wake of a devastating hurricane, Special Agent Meg Jennings and her Labrador, Hawk-invaluable members of the FBI's Human Scent Evidence Team-have been deployed to Virginia Beach. They have their work cut out for them. Amid graveyards of debris, and the buried cries for help, the search and rescue operation begins. The most alarming discovery is yet to come-a teenage girl hiding in the Great Dismal Swamp. Shaken by the storm, she has reason to be scared. But this young survivor is terrified of so much more. Her name is Emma-a disheveled runaway lost to the sordid underbelly of a Virginia sex-trafficking ring. Its leader has disappeared in the chaos-along with other victims. With so much evidence, and so many witnesses, seemingly washed away, Meg joins forces with Special Agent Walter Van Cleave to ensure no further harm comes to their vulnerable charge. They soon discover that this is no small-time localized syndicate. Its branches are rooted in some of the most influential powers in Virginia. Now as Meg's investigation digs deeper, she's making some very dangerous enemies. And one by one, they're coming out of the storm to stop her.

Title: Storm Rising (The Book of the Wars #1)Author: Ronie KendigPages: 384Year: 2019Publisher: Bethany HouseMy rating is 4 out of 5 stars. The Book of the Wars of the Lord allegedly is a real book that exists and has been found by a nefarious organization. The book tells of past wars and their outcomes as well as future wars and their outcomes, so there is more than one organization/person after it. One such group is a special ops team led by Leif Metcalfe, a former Navy SEAL. His team travels the globe in their search for the book. One of their main competitors is a Bulgarian agent, code name Viorica, who has amazing skills and will stop at nothing to complete her mission. While Leif’s interactions with Viorica have him admiring her abilities and have him thinking romantic thoughts about her, he is still struggling with his secret abilities and a six-month gap in his memory.Viorica or Iskra Todorova steals the book, but only has it for a short while. She will do anything to get it back. She is a woman who can’t fail her mission as it will have dire consequences. She is immediately attracted to Leif, but she can’t afford to let her heart lead her astray. She must stay focused and bring the book to her controller. However, the more meetings she has with Leif the more she wants to trust him. If he discovers her secrets, all will be lost to her way of thinking.I had a little trouble getting into this book, but a kept reading knowing that Ronie always writes with plenty of action and spine-tingling missions for her military protagonists. The prologue had me glued to my seat, but then the story takes readers back one month to give us background information and slows down. There were a lot of characters to keep track of as well that sometimes had me re-reading pages to make sure I had everyone’s character in the right place. However, the electricity between the two main characters was palpable, and their skill set to get out of dangerous situations was truly awesome! The teasing between the members of the team was also funny and fun to read. I already have book two, King’s Falling, on my watch list to order on its release date of 3/31/20.Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.

This is the first book of Ronie Kendig's that I have read. I felt a little lost at first like I was missing parts of the story. In reading other reviews they state that this book has characters from other series. That may have helped during the first part of the story but it did not stop me from getting engaged and following along well later. This book had many elements that I enjoy. I enjoy a good action/adventure. This book had that and more. I loved the biblical day references and the fictional "Book of Wars". There was romance, super-soldiers, assassins, and redemption. This will not be the last book of the author's that I read. This book pulled me in and kept me reading. I wanted to see how it would play out. Would Leif be able to pull his team through a stormy sea, tread through a minefield, or save the day and the child?I received a complimentary copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. This book does contain violence. It is set during a war, a war between good and evil.

This is the first book that I've read by Ronie Kendig and now I know why people are so eager to read her books. Storm Rising offers intrigue from the opening sentence 'He’d never killed a woman in cold blood before, but now was as good a time as any‘ and the excitement never lets up. As I was nearing the end, Mission Impossible came to my mind. When you think it just won't work and when you fear that the hero and heroine are not going to succeed, there is that last minute reprieve!I really liked the hero Leif Metcalfe. He had been a Navy Seal and his duty had left him an extremely scarred person. Iskra "Viorica" Todorova was equally scarred and she was a complicated character who appeared to be a villian; it was only as I learned her full story that I could understand how she became a Bulgarian operative and why she chose to remain. It is, however, the sparks between Leif and Iskra that fuel this story! It is apparent that they are physically attracted to each other but their past lives, their current situations, and their mutual mistrust are great deterents to any lasting relationship. I also enjoyintriguing plotline that includes cloud seeding. I have heard of this being done to create positive results but the theme of Storm Rising and the mission to find The Book of Books allows cloud seeding to be used for evil. This book is the first book of Kendig's new series The Book of the Wars and it is labeled Christian suspense fiction. There are a few references in the story that readers of Christian fiction may find surprising but they are written in a non-offensive manner. If you enjoy intense action and mystery suspense and if you want a story filled with faith and hope, then you will certainly enjoy Storm Rising. I received a complimentary copy from Bethany House Publishers and a favorable review was not required. These are my honest thoughts.

“God had a funny sense of humor, making their minds so equally matched.”Incredible. Just incredible. Ronie Kendig is known to unleash high-adrenaline, action-packed, intense military romantic suspense but this first installment in The Book of Wars series absolutely tops her previous books. Mind you, I have adored Tox and his crew through three heart-stopping novels and a novella prequel in The Tox Files but this book, with a covert op leader Leif as the hero and a trained assassin Iskra as his female counterpart, just elevates the experience up a few notches. As Leif’s team, Iskra on behalf of her Russian mobster boss, a German group, and another nebulous entity named Armageddon Coalition all race and fight against each other to find this ancient artifact called The Book of Wars that details previous wars and prophesies future wars, plot twists, betrayals, and fierce loyalty abound to bring forth a book that will set your heart racing. The characters, especially Leif and Iskra, are multi-dimensional and deeply layered. The familiar faces of Mercy and Cell from the Tox Files are sweet to behold but their backstories, if you are not familiar with them, are not necessary to enjoy the plot in Storm Rising. The technology discussed in the story is quite fascinating and I’m anxiously awaiting where Ronie Kendig will take Leif’s team in the next book!If you enjoy a well-written romantic suspense/thriller, this book is a must-read! I received a copy of the book from Bethany House and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

I am amazed at how talented this author is. She is able to write a story that jumps off the pages and becomes real. You can feel yourself there as the team is in tunnels scrambling for their lives. Her knowledge about the Navy Seals, CIA and other agencies is evident in the details she provides.Leif is everything you expect in a team leader. He is determined, powerful and never gives up. I loved that he was in charge and knew this was going to be an adventure with danger, intrigue and casualties. The action is non stop and brings chills as you read the enemy they face. I loved the military influence in the story and how technology became a factor in helping their their mission. There is someone who doesn’t want Leif and his team to succeed and it makes for thrills and surprises throughout the story. There is a bit of romance in the book that is worth mentioning. It’s not the main focus of the story but it sure puts some things into perspective at times. I know the team has a very important task , but there is always time for a little romance to lighten up the intensity a bit. This by far is the author’s best book with characters that are realistic and a thriller that takes us across the world into the far reaches of enemy territory. There is a continuous surge of danger and oh my the team does make me feel very protective in this crazy world we live in. I would definitely want Leif and his team to be front and center should any danger arise around us. I know they are just characters, but to me the author has made them so genuine and real, you can almost see them in the desert fighting. This is one story that has all the elements for a best seller. I am already anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
