About this audiobook

Perfect for fans of Warcross and Black Mirror, Girl Gone Viral is the inventive and timely story of a 17-year-old coder's catapult to stardom.

For 17-year-old Opal Hopper, code is magic. She builds entire worlds from scratch: Mars craters, shimmering lakes, any virtual experience her heart desires.

But she can't code her dad back into her life. When he disappeared after her 10th birthday, leaving only a cryptic note, Opal tried desperately to find him. And when he never turned up, she enrolled at a boarding school for technical prodigies and tried to forget.

Until now. Because WAVE, the world's biggest virtual reality platform, has announced a contest where the winner gets to meet its billionaire founder. The same billionaire who worked closely with Opal's dad. The one she always believed might know where he went. The one who maybe even murdered him.

What begins as a small data hack to win the contest spirals out of control when Opal goes viral, digging her deeper into a hole of lies, hacks, and manipulation. How far will Opal go for the answers — or is it the attention — she's wanted for years?

4.5☆ I loved this story. It follows a group of teenagers, especially one Opal who tries to solve the mystery of her dad's disappearance. She lives in a world where VR is much advanced. With the power of friendship and social media, she solves her mystery but not without the cost; the process is full of obstacles and the end result painful. The story feels like a glimpse into our future. The world building is well developed but not overwhelming. The characters are well established. Especially the main character who goes thorough solid character growth. Most importantly the story moves forward and there is not thought dumps or dragging and making the story longer for the sake of more words. With that being said I would recommend this book to anyone really it's an easy and engaging read. Personally my mind did not wonder while listening this audiobook like it sometimes does, to the point where I have to go back and re-listen.
