About this audiobook

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet meets The 100 in this unforgettable debut by a brilliant new voice.

A century ago, scientists theorised that a habitable planet existed in a nearby solar system. Today, ten astronauts will leave a dying Earth to find it. Four are decorated veterans of the 20th century’s space-race. And six are teenagers, graduates of the exclusive Dalton Academy, who’ve been in training for this mission for most of their lives.

It will take the team 23 years to reach Terra-Two. Twenty-three years spent in close quarters. Twenty-three years with no one to rely on but each other. Twenty-three years with no rescue possible, should something go wrong. And something always goes wrong.

The characters in this story are chosen to be pioneers to a new planet. As a joke, the UK Space Agency (a joke in itself), chose the worst possible people to go. Except the book is not written as a comedy. This book is like a satire, but it's written in a serious tone.

This was painful to listen to.

One character commits suicide before the launch, one is dying of cancer, one is a psychopath, one wants a Marxist utopia on the new planet, one becomes a religious nut, one becomes insane, and so on. If I want to see losers being losers, all I have to do is look out my window or turn on the TV. Reading about them is just boring and painful.

Teen drama in space. I found this a bland story where the author does not world build enough. Disliked all characters.

Chapter 30 out of 58 and nothing even remotely exciting has happened. Snooze fest.

At first, I was intrigued by the concept, but I gave up around halfway, frustrated with the unrealistic concept of sending these teenage misfits to space forever. I wrote a one-star review and thought that was that. Then I went back and finished it on x1,5 speed, and while I still didn't love it, I forgave it. If you can get through the halfway point, I think it's worth a read.

Drags a bit. It is sci-fi in the same way that the book Little Women is historical fiction. Yeah you can call it that but it's more melodrama than anything else

Very anti-climatic. Long winded character description with not much for character developpement. Was rather disapointed.

This book is about the journey, not the destination and do you know what? I too dream of Terra Two.

Well written and narrated. Zero Plot. Teen Anguish yes. Sci Fi no.

This was a really great audio book. I really fell into the characters. This was one of the most realistic space odyssey’s I have ever read. The way it ended made me think there could be a second part. Fingers crossed that’s the case.

Not bad. It's a little YA for me. I wasn't ready for teen drama (my fault). Otherwise well told and a good production.

An emotional journey for 6 young people.
The narrator did an excellent job, and the story was heartfelt.

A novel with the premise of a sci-fi adventure spends the first 3 hours with bland teenage drama & romance. Couldn’t continue listening beyond that.

Tries to introduce 6 characters using long and inmemorable opening sequences. Totally missing the opportunity to introduce characters using stories of mission training or more dynamic situations.

This novel is full of surprises, real characters who are talented and come with their idiosyncrasies and faults, all set in a fantasy, but believable, context. They are all part of an intense effort to send a small group of teenagers and a few experiences adults to start a colony in an earth-like planet. The trip will take 23 years so the youth will be in their 40s when they arrive and their adult leaders and teachers will be getting elderly.

I try not to leave reviews about books I haven't finished, but I just couldn't force myself to finish this book, even listening on two times speed. What if we decided that for one of the most important missions in human history we chose the least qulified possible teanagers? Not surprisingly, the result is, they have a lot of teenage angst.

Beautifully written. You can almost see the stars, feel the pressure of oxygen on skin, and know that space is only an inch away. It wasn't the story I was expecting either.

I accidentally discovered this book as one of the possible books during black history month.

This book is great story. And it also one of the rare books I have came across by western writer where the is no negative digging against Chinese or Russians. The book does not have the same level of bias of exclusivity— towards other nationalities and race.

Well-written, good character study. You could tell it was written by someone who survived a rigorous scientific academic program. The reader was excellent.
