Reviews for Black Enough

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A collection of short stories full of substance, exhuberance, questions, and love. What is it like to be Black and young in the U.S.A.? These stories are a joyful reminder that there is no one answer: there are many. Black is country, is queer, is grieving, is a first crush, is mad at their parents, is summer camp and ghost stories, is mall rats, is beaches, is heavy metal, is church retreats, is city life, is knowing your ancestors, is Black Lives Matter, is making beautiful art. "My hope is that Black Enough will encourage all Black teens to be their free, uninhibited selves without the constraints of being Black, too Black, or not Black enough. They will simply be enough just as they are."
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a great book. I think this is something that teachers should have high school students read. There wasn't a story that I didn't like. MY favorite stories were:
Oreo
Wild Horses, Wild Hearts
Gravity
Hackathon Summers
The (R)Evolution of Nigeria Jones - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Black is...sisters navigating their relationship at summer camp in Portland, Oregon, as written by Renée Watson. Black is...three friends walking back from the community pool talking about nothing and everything, in a story by Jason Reynolds. Black is...Nic Stone's high-class beauty dating a boy her momma would never approve of. Black is...two girls kissing in Justina Ireland's story set in Maryland. Black is...urban and rural, wealthy and poor, mixed race, immigrants, and more because there are countless ways to be Black enough.
