About this audiobook

Spanning more than two centuries in Ireland, Castle on the Rise unites the legacy of three women who must risk mending their broken places for life, love, and the belief that even through the depths of our pain, a masterpiece of a story can emerge.

When Laine Forrester travels overseas to attend her best friend’s vineyard wedding, she expects to find the bride on the brink of a fairy-tale life. But after a series of unforeseen setbacks, it seems the storybook lives they’d imagined are suddenly ripping apart.

With hopes of resurrecting a happy ending, Laine agrees to accompany the newlyweds to the groom’s home in Ireland—never expecting she’d be the one drawn in by its wide-open moors, backroads bordering the Irish Sea, and a mysterious castle that dares to keep its secrets hidden.

From the storied streets of Dublin to the shores of the Emerald Isle, Laine is drawn in to the land and its rich history. The castle ruins whisper stories of Issy—a photojournalist battling through the 1916 Easter Rising, and Maeve—the castle’s lady of legend, fighting for survival through the 1798 rebellion that started it all.

Kristy Cambron does it again. Castle on the Rise is an exquisite trip through history and ruins, worth every page. “But there’s something about dreams that don’t need castle ruins or fairy-tale endings to make life beautiful. We can still have the happy while we stand up to the sad.”Laine travels with her daughter to France to attend the wedding of friend Ellie (of The Lost Castle) in the midst of life-changing challenges for them both. As a result, she ends up then traveling to Ireland as a favor to Ellie and embarks on a journey that, though riddled with violence, prejudice, and loss, unites three women across centuries, all learning what it means to be free.“Maybe she didn’t need to have everything figured out to say yes to something new—bravery could be as simple as a yes when she was at her most afraid.”Castle on the Rise is a beautiful, bittersweet story, and I loved venturing into each of the three storylines, seeing the connections between them. I appreciated, too, that though Ellie gets her “happily ever after,” so to speak, it’s not perfect or easy—the whole story is filled with tough circumstances, and still, Cambron does not leave the reader without hope through it all. So, if you love historical fiction and multiple storylines, I recommend reading this book. Thanks to Celebrate Lit, I received a complimentary copy of Castle on the Rise and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.

“Castle on the Rise” by Kristy Cambron is the second book in the “Lost Castle” series. It ties in with the first book in the series, ”The Lost Castle,” but can easily be read as a standalone. “Castle on the Rise” takes place mostly in Ireland and involves three separate stories in three different time periods, all centering around one castle. The time periods are the revolutionary late 1700s, the 1916 Easter Rising and present day. Ms. Cambron weaves stories of faith, love, family and women rising amidst hard times into a cohesive tale.My o my! I barely even took notes for this review because I was so caught up in Ms. Cambron’s beautiful and at times heart-breaking story! She sweeps readers to the streets of Dublin, to the cozy pubs and the windswept shores of a castle’s ruins and an estate in the Wicklow Mountains! She is the queen of setting and now I want to visit Ireland. She also did her research well and I learned a lot about Ireland’s history and its fight for freedom. It’s so amazing how she can connect such different periods in time so well. I admit I was a little confused with the events surrounding the Easter Rising in 1916, just because I really knew nothing about it, but it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. Ms. Cambron’s stories are so moving and poignant. Each story features families that are broken in some way; by war, prejudice or the past. These families must move from hatred to acceptance and forgiveness. I love especially how the women from each story must pull from a strength they didn’t know they had and rise up amidst very difficult and seemingly impossible situations to establish peace. They can only do this through faith. I must warn you to keep a tissue box handy. This is a story that will resonate with you long after you read it and might even help you in your own story.Content: I give this book a PG-13 rating. Some examples of the content are: a woman is pregnant without being married and has been raped; a man is drunk; mentions of alcohol and pubs.Rating: I give this book 5 stars.Genre: Christian fiction; Historical; RomanceI want to thank Kristy Cambron, Thomas Nelson and BookLook Bloggers for the complimentary copy of this book for review. The Easter Rising, also known as the Easter Rebellion, was an armed insurrection in Ireland during Easter Week, April 1916. The Rising was launched by Irish nationalists seeking to end British rule in Ireland. Britain had controlled Ireland for some 700 years, in ways disadvantageous and cruel to the Irish Catholics. The Easter Rising came 118 years after the unsuccessful rebellion of 1798, which was the first armed action of Irish revolutionaries. This historical fiction romance uses three time frames, including the period of these two rebellions, as well as the present day. The three stories alternating in the book are all tied together by family, setting, and history. In addition, somewhat parallel romances characterize each period. In the portions set during the Irish Rebellion of 1798, we learn something about the enmity between the Irish and the British, when Maeve Ashford, the Mistress of Ashford Manor since her mother’s death, becomes acquainted with Eoin O’Byrne, an Irish activist. In 1916, we meet Issy Byrne, a would-be photojournalist who, like Maeve, is also from the Anglo-Irish aristocracy but finds herself in love with an Irish patriot. And in the present day, Laine Forrester is reluctantly drawn to her best friend’s new brother-in-law, Cormac Foley, who has just inherited a castle on the grounds of Ashford Manor. All of the couples have to deal with the difficulties of bridging the span between two different worlds - worlds that have been characterized by much pain and sorrow. The romance between each couple is well-done; there is nice tension and pacing surrounding the "forbidden" attraction each of them experiences. Cambron resolves the conflicts realistically, and at the same time leaves room for expansion of their stories if she so chooses. (Apparently this book is the second of a series. I was unaware of that, but had no trouble following the story.)Evaluation: With strong female characters and a compelling historical and geographical setting, this book has much to recommend it.

Castle on the Rise by Kristy Cambron is the second book in her Lost Castle series. This is the story of Ireland’s fight for freedom. Spanning more than two centuries; it unites the tales of three women, woven around the Castle Chryn. The author brings to life the beautiful, breath-taking scenery that is the Emerald Isle. As you read you have no trouble imagining that you are there. What was hard was keeping up with three different stories. Each chapter alternated between the three characters and their respective time frames. It was hard to keep up at times and adjust from present day to the 1700’s. I thought that the stories would have made an excellent novella; telling each story on its own. The stories were well written and the history very informative without being boring. I did enjoy getting to know the characters and would enjoy reading another story by this author now that I am familiar with her writing style. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit in exchange for my honest review.

Castle on the Rise isn’t a fast reading type of book. I found it hard to get into the book not because it wasn’t good, but because I didn’t read the first book so I felt like I was missing a lot of information on the locations and characters. The story starts with a fairytale wedding of Quinn Foley and Ellie Carver who were introduced in the first novel. Laine Forrester arrives from the states with her young daughter for her best friend’s wedding only to run into some surprises. Laine inherits a beautiful manor home by the Foley men, Quinn, Jack, and Cormac. Lady Maeve Ashford, an English lady, and Eoin O’Byrne, an Irish Catholic rebel unfold. These three stories mesh very well. The themes are courage and life struggles. The previous book took you through three decades in Ireland starting out in the 1700s. There are many strong women. Kristy Cambron does an amazing job with writing vivid details without being too much. She puts a lot of Ireland’s history through the eyes of Issy and Maeve. Each character dealt with love and life struggles. I would recommend reading this book. I learned a lot about Irish culture.

This is a very good story that takes place over three generations of Irish women and their loved ones. It goes back and forth from present day to 1916 and then to 1798. Each woman must learn to be strong and the story revolves around a certain castle. I really liked the characters. I look forward to many more books by Kristy Cambron. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Many of us have been asked the question, "If you could go anywhere you wanted, where would you go?" My answer has always been Ireland. Thanks to the gifted author with her vivid descriptions, I feel like I have traveled there. The beauty of this story is that it takes place during three time periods. The historical details were so intriguing and I was torn as to what period I liked. Each one told a story that weaved into the other without hesitation. Laine is in the present day and travels to France to help her brother with an issue of inheritance dealing with his friend. Along the way, she will have decisions to make and some soul searching that will have readers delving into her story with anticipation. I liked her determination and loved going along with her as she explores places. Issy's story is set in 1916 where we find her going out into the trenches of the Easter Rising . She captures pictures with her Kodak camera that take in the tragedy of a place fighting for freedom. I loved her spunk and how she never gave up. Maeve's story is set in 1798 and finds herself trying to save her family's castle from being in ruins. Her story set the stage as the author starts to untangle each woman's life and show how each one became an important part to the overall story line. It was hard for Maeve to trust anyone and will find herself questioning her decisions. The story moves at a good pace and was easy to slip into different time periods with ease. I loved how the author took us from present day where Laine is struggling with issues from back home, to a courageous Issy who uses her camera to capture bullets flying and chaos breaking out, to Maeve who is desperate to save her home . Each woman is searching for something that will take readers on a journey as we watch them struggle to find answers and hope.I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher and Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

My gosh! There are so many reasons why this book is a must read. The historical detail is incredible - I could almost see the streets of Dublin, feel the terror of rebellion, the frantic attempt to save lives from the flames and even picture the ruins of a castle that saw life centuries ago. I will admit I made copious notes as I read, trying to figure out how the different time frames came together. Evident through all of these were the Williams pears, pianos and faith - not prepackaged, but messy, raw and present even as the rain fell.'When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flames scorch you' Isaiah 43:2 (nkjv)A heartwarming story of love and loss, restoration and hope and perhaps, as the author stated 'a story of rebellion, not just Ireland but in all of us'.I received this book through Netgalley and CelebrateLit for my enjoyment. All impressions and opinions are my own.

A story about three different women facing a variety of challenges during three different time periods centered around a castle near Dublin. I appreciated that none of the challenges had easy answers and enjoyed reading about the secrets that were revealed as time went on. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The book takes us through three time periods in Ireland with the location of the same Castle, with the decades spanning the 1700’s through to present, each leaving their mark. Now this is the second book, which I hadn’t realized, but was brought up to date while reading, and now need to go back and read! The author presents us with three strong women, and the battles and sacrifices that are made for those they love and care about.A beautiful description of Ireland, I could almost see what the author was describing, and feel the bullets flying. We are there to witness all these struggles, and now waiting for the conclusion in the third book, which can’t come soon enough!I received this book through Celebrate Lit, and was not required to give a positive review,
