About this audiobook

When homicide detectives Leo Magozzi and Gino Rolseth are called to a crime scene in a heavily-wooded city park, the setting is all too familiar. And when they discover a playing card on the victim's body, their worst fears are confirmed: there's a serial killer operating in the city for the first time in years. As the violence accelerates in Minneapolis, Magozzi and Rolseth soon realize their killer is planning to complete the deck, and they enlist Grace MacBride and her unconventional partners at Monkeewrench Software to help stop the rampage.

As a baffling tangle of evidence accumulates, the cops and Monkeewrench make unlikely connections between a farmer's missing daughter, a serial killer, and a decades-old stabbing that bring them face-to-face with pure evil.

I was so happy to see the daughter continue their work by giving us this addition to the series. The Monkeewrench Software computer geeks are asked to reopen a missing person case which rapidly turns into a case of serial homicide. The only thing I can say that was "off" about this one is if someone new to the series were to read this one first they wouldn't form the same connections to the Monkeewrench investigators and software team that we long-time readers do...because it just didn't seem to be there. However the few chapters that were from the killer’s perspective were excellent and gave us a very dark and twisted view of this individual. Still a great series and the "gang" is certainly worthwhile becoming acquainted with.

Monkeewrench has decided to get out of town, try a different type of case for a change. They are going to Buttonville, a small farming community in southwest Minnesota. A local farmers daughter disappeared on her way home to visit her father. He believes her dead, but he just wants to know. The tension ratchets up as the Minneapolis detectives Magozzi and Gino investigate a serial killer leaving bodies of joggers in their local parks. As the investigation proceeds, they realize their serial killer case is connecting with the missing persons case that Monkeewrench is investigating in Buttonville.Where is the killer … the killer may actually be in Buttonville and Magozzi is concerned for Grace and the well-being of their soon to be born child.Great pace and tension, it kept me glued to the pages until done.

There is a new serial killer terrorizing Minneapolis. His victims are brunettes who are running in parks. He leaves a playing card on his victims' bodies. Magozzi and Rolseth catch the case of the latest victim in Minneapolis. But he's also committing crimes in St. Paul. Meanwhile, the Monkeewrench gang has decided to take a more personal case and look into the disappearance of a young woman from a small town in rural Minnesota. Strangely enough, these cases come together by way of drug cartels and long-past friendships and crimes. I liked that Grace and Magozzi's relationship is getting closer now that Grace is nearly six months pregnant. I liked the Minnesota setting. I liked that some of the danger in the book come from Minnesota weather and summer tornadoes.

3.5 On the one hand, I adore the characters. The two detectives Gino and Leo, and of course the formidable Monkey wrench crew, Roadrunner, Harley, Annie and Grace. All with extremely interesting back stories. In this one I also really appreciated the character of Walt, a farmer whose daughter is missing, bringing the crew in to try to find connections that the law cannot. Leo and Gino find themselves investigating a possible serial killer. So the cases were interesting and the story flowed well, the writing solid. On the other hand, the Moonkeywrench crew and their talents were not really used nor displayed and this is usually one of my favorite parts of this series. The crew was on site, but really had next to no input. Rather disappointed by this. Also Grace, now quite pregnant was not her usual edgy self, though Annie and her high heels had a few amusing scenes. So while this was good it was not my favorite of the series and I hope in the next installment the crew has more of a role. My sympathies to the remaining author of this well received series.ARC from Netgalley.

The Monkeewrench crew is back at it in the 8th installment of this series! Centered around Minneapolis homicide detectives Leo Magozzi and Gino Rolseth, who have been sent to a crime scene in a heavily wooded park, where the scenario feels too familiar to be a coincidence. A playing card found on the victim’s body leads the detectives to think another case may be connected and that a serial killer is on the hunt. At the same time, Grace MacBride and the crew at Monkeewrench get a call from a sleepy town nearby concerning a missing woman and possible cartel connections. The Minneapolis detectives soon find their case tied to Monkeewrench’s investigation. With a violent criminal and cartel connections, the two groups are in for a wild, violent ride. The potential for this killer to be after the goal of completing an entire deck of murders, puts things in fast motion. Unlikely connections between the two cases weave the pieces of a puzzle filled with pure evil at its center. Can the detectives stop this killer before bodies pile up? What happened to this missing woman? Is she just another body in the deck? Before receiving access to this ARC, I had never read one of the Monkeewrench series books. Despite my lack of reading the seven previous releases, I was able to understand the connections between characters and the current plot line. There were certainly times where specific things were mentioned that I felt confused on from lacking the backstory, but these instances did not hinder my enjoyment of the novel. Tracy created a story that was both captivating and terrifying. The reality that events like these could easily happen in a small town made the story an addictive read. The character development was complete and the reader was able to truly bond with each character throughout the story. Not having read any of Tracy’s work in the past, I was not familiar with the way narratives switched between characters as the chapters changed. I was caught off guard initially by this formatting, but was able to pick up on the changes easier and adapt the further I read. NOTHING STAYS BURIED is a perfect novel for fans of the thriller genre who are intrigued by serial killers and scenarios that could happen to anyone. I would highly recommend picking this novel up regardless of if a reader has past experience with the Monkeewrench series or not. This book has been intrigued to head back and read the seven novels that came before in this series! Thank you to G.P Putnam’s Sons and P.J. Tracy for providing me early access to this galley through Penguin’s First to Read program in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

In 2003 I picked up a book called “Monkeewrench” & was instantly hooked. Fourteen years later, nothing has changed. As usual there are multiple story lines that develop separately until evidence begins to weave them together.Leo Magozzi & Gino Rolseth are homicide detectives with the Minneapolis PD. Which is a good thing because they’ve got a dead body on their hands. A young woman was found murdered in a park & unfortunately the distinctive MO is ringing a few bells. Several months ago another woman was found in a similar setting but the case was never solved. Before they can make much headway, the body count begins to rise. And things get even more complicated when FBI agents show up & aren’t keen to explain why.Meanwhile, over at Monkeewrench, Harley is doing his best to talk the crew into taking a missing persons case. Sheriff Jacob Emmet arranged for him to meet Walt Gustafson, an old farmer whose daughter Marla disappeared without a trace 2 months ago. Harley figures it’s the perfect case. They’ll get to help some decent people while keeping the 6 months pregnant Grace away from the usual brand of bad guys they chase. Every now & then we spend a chapter with the killer & it’s an uncomfortable experience. Slowly we realize there’s something fundamentally wrong with them, some glitch on a cellular level. As both investigations progress, we catch up on the characters’ personal lives. Leo is over the moon about becoming a dad (despite Gino sharing his domestic horror stories) & continues to work on the lake house he bought. Grace has been softened by the pregnancy & is beginning to entertain the idea that not everyone wants to kill you. There’s a subtle shift in tension & pace as information begins to trickle in & before they know it, they’re facing a cold killer, wild weather & a horrific discovery on Walt’s farm. Oh, and what’s the deal with the lion?Earlier books were more focused on action & hi-tech toys as the characters, their backgrounds & relationships were established. This is a more character driven plot with emphasis on how the investigations affect their personal lives as the situation becomes increasingly dangerous. I must confess that around book #6, I grew tired of Grace & Leo’s idiot dance as they continued to circle each other. Thankfully the old will-they-or-won’t-they situation was resolved but because the authors took their time, the evolution of Grace’s character is more believable. She’ll never be described as a hugger but the fact there’s a little Magozzi on the way makes it obvious she no longer sheaths herself in emotional (or physical) armour. If like moi you have a book budget, sometimes it’s hard to decide where to spend your hard earned cash. No drama here, these are a no-brainer. The characters have become old friends & it remains one of my go-to series. These books were written by the mother/daughter team of PJ & Traci Lambrecht . Sadly, PJ passed away in Dec. 2016 but according to the website, Traci intends to carry on entertaining us with suitably tangled cases for the Monkeewrench crew to solve.

Another solid installment in the Monkeewrench series with equal balance between the police investigation of a murder and Monkeewrench's inquiries into a missing woman. Fast-paced and tense though Grace is a bit less interesting now that she's settling down into a more normal and trusting life.

This was my favorite book of this series so far for me. I really enjoyed the characters. They work so well together. This had many twist and turns. I loved the suspense. I received an ebook copy from Firsttoread for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

This instalment features a serial killer who leaves playing cards with his victims' bodies. That's the police case, and then the Monkeywrench team are asked to help with a missing person case. This was despite what they were being asked to do being solidly detective work - it was difficult to see how their software expertise was going to be any help at all. Also, while I'm complaining, I really dislike it when speeding is treated as an amusing kind of mischief - 90mph in a 30mph zone - I hope it wasn't a school zone. Marla's eventual fate was hinted at during the narrative, but nevertheless seemed a bit unlikely. Also the body count was high - even for this series. On the plus side the plot was coherent and fast moving, and the section about the tornado touching down was exciting and interesting - I learnt things!

I have several books by these authors on my shelves but I have not had the chance to read them yet. I was glad when this book became available to read as I really wanted to read one of their books. The term "Monkeewrench" just sounded so fun.And that's what this book was. Fun to read. I really enjoyed getting to know the gang and what a rig they have! I want one of those! The story was action packed with a serial killer on the loose and a missing daughter who happens upon a dead body in the middle of the road. The tornado scene at the end of the book had my heart beating out of my chest.Excellent read. I can't wait to read more by these authors. Thanks to Penguin Group Putnam and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I've read the entire Monkeewrench series and love it. It is a good suspenseful series with strong characters and this latest book is no exception. You don't have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one although it does help to understand the relationships between the Monkeewrench gang and Gino and Leo. The plot was fast moving and had lots of good twists. I received an ARC of this book from First to Read.

This is my first encounter with the writing team of P.J. Tracy and while crime/drama isn't my first reading choice I was engaged from the first page. By the middle of the book I had done a search on my public library website and put a hold on the first of the Monkeewrench books and it waiting for me as I write this. This is a fast-paced, hand-wringing, increased respiration read with solid characters, believable plot, hold your breath ending. I was lucky to receive an ARC There is no question that I plan to read the previous seven in the series.
