Shade Ganavan: arrogance, charm...and that special something that makes you want to kick him. With the dreaded Dark Watch closing in, what Tess and Shade don't know about each other might get them killed...unless they can set aside their differences and learn to trust each other before it's too late.

Nightchaser is the first book in the new series that Amanda Bouchet has written and this is a science fiction romance and I had a feeling that this author would deliver just as she has done within her fantasy series. I wasn’t sure what to fully expect from this author though, when it came to this book here, I just had a feeling it would be a fun time and it definitely was. As this is the first book in the romance between Shade and Tess, there is a lot of build up of the romance between them. Their romance does start out pretty slow at first, because you can see how the author is slowly building up the world here, she doesn’t really pack everything into this first book, I still have so many questions about where she will be heading with this series. But what she does have me on…..a level of intrigued where I want the mysteries unveiled. In Nightchaser, we have our heroine, Captain Tess Bailey and a group that she flies with and they are a bit like “Robin Hood and his band of thieves” She has family that want her, no matter the cost, so that they can use what is in her blood for their own deceptive military means. Tess is determined to continue what she is doing, despite being chased all over the galaxy for it. Now her ship is damaged and in need of repairs so they touch down on a planet in search of someone that can do the repairs, quick and cheap and that is when Tess comes across Shade. Shade is working his way to buying back his family’s empire business, and only through working with Tess he is realizing the chemistry between them, but there is more to it than that….the bounty on her safe return is a temptation he isn’t sure he can resist. And Shade will have to make a choice and will he choose to stand by Tess in the end or be the one to betray her?I found Nightchaser to be a astounding read and I was really captivated by the world that this author creates for us here. I really loved seeing the dynamics between Shade and Tess. They have such profound personalities and you come to see them for what they are in the end and what they are capable of and in the end what they are willing to sacrifice for each other. Tess was such a likeable heroine, while she can fight just as good as anyone, she has such a kind and caring heart and that was so attractive within the story. Seeing what she is willing to sacrifice for the sake of others especially children just warms the heart. Shade is a hero that will pull you into the story, he has that rugged blue collar vibe and I just wanted more of his background and hidden story because I know there are many depths to his character I am looking forward to seeing in future books.Overall I found Nightchaser to be a stunning debut novel to this series, its a book that will gravitate your attention, gear one up for the world building with each chapter, and brings to light a beautiful balance of plot focus and character building….Amanda Bouchet delivers on a level that leaves this reader itching for more!!

This is the book that kicked off my love of this author. This is a fun space romp with love, espionage, intrigue, it has it all. Do you like a grumpy exterior to the love interests? Trust issues? Double and triple crossing and high stakes? This had it all. An interesting plot and cast of characters that drove the story just as much as the romance.

LOOOOVED this book so much, already can not wait for the next book in the series. I adore Space Opera, and this was an EXCELLENT example of the genre.

I liked the science fiction and the cats, but I'm not 100% on board with Tess's mysterious backstory/ ability to miraculously heal/ chosen one schtick. The romance is amusing -- I love a hero who you'd rather kick than kiss, and the crew and the worlds are pretty sweet.

This was honestly the best book I have read in a while. Amanda Bouchet has written a fast paced page Turner that has you on the edge of your seat turning another page! Fantastic and I am off to read book 2!

Space travel. Theft. Telling your Overlord tyrant of a father where to stuff it. Rebels, Overlord soldiers, Bounty Hunters and one hell of a cash reward for Tess Bailey, dead or alive (preferably alive). The show down at the end of the book promises to continue into the next book.

This space opera begins a new series. Tess Bailey is a orphan rebel with a mysterious past. Shade Ganavan is the bounty hunter who wants to bring her in to get the money to buy back the business his father lost to gamblers. They meet when Tess and her crew stop at his planet in need of urgent ship repairs and fleeing the Dark Watch who wants to recover her and the lab she stole.Shade is conflicted about turning Tess in. The more he gets to know her, the more he likes her and her cause. In fact, they fall in love. But Shane isn't the only bounty hunter on her trail. When others come and Tess learns that he is also a bounty hunter, her sense of betrayal ruins her relationship with Shade. The book has plenty of action as Tess and her crew get in and out of danger. Secrets are learned. This was an okay space opera. There was nothing wrong with it, but there was nothing new or original about it either. It hits most of the space opera tropes but doesn't add anything to the genre. Readers looking for another space opera will enjoy this one. Readers who are fans of Bouchet's writing will also enjoy this one.

I truly loved everything about NIGHTCHASER.I love a badass female and Tess definitely fit the bill. She started out as a huge mystery, but I loved unraveling her story in NIGHTCHASER. Shade was also mysterious and a bit cocky, but in a sexy confident way. I really enjoyed Tess and Shade together. It took awhile for them to get past their dance of mistrust, but their personalities and chemistry really worked. The other characters in NIGHTCHASER were just as strong as the main characters. Tess' crew all meshed well and brought a ton to the story. I enjoyed learning everything that was revealed about them. The Endeavor world is complex, but what we have gotten so far has been well built. There was plenty of danger involved in NIGHTCHASER and their were plenty of times that I was left on the edge of my seat. NIGHTCHASER introduces the Endeavor series with a bang and I hope that STARBREAKER lives up to it. Unfortunately we have to wait until April 2020 to find out. * This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

' "Evil is evil!” [... not] "a perspective".' Ok I'm totally sold on Nightchaser! The characters are feisty, heroic, damaged and easily identified with. A fast paced romantic space opera with Bouchet's particular brand of panache. I can well see why she claims Robin Hood and Star Wars as her muses, referring to "these characters and their epic struggle" as strong influences. I'm also seeing shades of Elizabeth Moon's Vatta series.Captain Tess Bailey and her crew, escapees from an horrendous prison are committed to righting wrongs against a harsh and intractable dictator, the conquering Overlord. With the opening sequence, Tess and crew find themselves in an unwinnable situation. And this is just the beginning!Tess' soliloquies on the place of novels in this totalitarian world are a window into Bouchet's soul.“Because novels stir feelings, wishes, and the heart,” [Tess] said. “Not all ideas and thoughts need to be proven, or even can be, and the Overseer is only interested in—no, only allows—what can be measured and quantified and put in a neat little box.”And again Tess' (Bouchet's) magical thoughts on "kindred spirits"."For some reason, it made [Tess] think of a huge web connecting everyone who fought the oppressive regime in whatever way they could, big or small. The image morphed into stars, bright spots of hope and courage winking all over the Dark—one giant constellation, spread out, but strong. Stronger than the Overseer thought."I'm in love with the enticing Shade Ganavan (drool!) who manages to both complicate and simplify his and Tess' situation. Shade himself is pulled between his own long term plans and his unexpected feelings for Tess. The chemistry between them goes nova!I'll also be fascinated to find out what the Big Guy's story is and where other characters will develop. Ahh! So many questions that only future parts of the series will reveal. I can hardly wait!A NetGalley ARC

Scrambled, abrupt plot drops, character black holes, unbelievable characters. (possible spoilers) -This started out really good. I loved the action, the mystery man, the ship the mystery. At about 15% everything went wonky. The books is filled with cliches and I saw the big moments coming from the very beginning, no surprises These people are running for their lives, they are escaped prisoners with bounty's on their heads they can not trust anyone. Too bad the story didn't stick with that little detail. Then the "big guy" (yes that was his title) who was introduced and seeming to have a major part just vanished from the story. Okay, I was thinking he'll be right back with some trick to get them going on to the next level right ? No, it's didn't happen till the end, (the end !) when he just popped up again out of the mist and was accepted back into the fold. The MC the most wanted of them all, is so wishy washy, she trusts no person, then blabs her whole story to a complete stranger she just met, and wants to do business with. Then she takes a shower in this strangers house ! What ? Okay she's dirty, water is tight on the ship, something mentioned so many times, but really? You are in so much danger, wanted, hunted and you take a shower in a strangers house ? Wait there is more. She steals a dangerous super solider vaccine, and finds out it's made from her blood. So because she's a super special girl she can drain herself almost dry to make a fix it for some sick kids. The story goes from this super solder vaccine to sick kids with whiplash speed. The vaccine that can cause war/death/destruction suddenly becomes almost forgotten in the story, it's all about saving these orphans, yeh orphans. I could go on but I think you get my feeling on this one. What happened ? I had this author on my top 20 list, this doesn't read like her work at all. Her last 2 books declined in quality this one dumped. I'm done and will not invest in her writing anymore.

I must say that I ended up enjoying this book quite a bit. It did take me a while to really get into the story but once I did I had a lot of fun with it. I was really eager to read this book since I really liked her books from the Kingmaker Chronicles trilogy. This is the first book in a brand new series that blends science fiction with romance and I think it worked really well.Tess Bailey and her crew start out this story in a bit of trouble. They have a stolen lab attached to their ship and are about to be caught. They take a chance on a risky maneuver to escape and then need to put the pieces back together. Their ship needs a lot of work and they are wanted by the authorities. Tess runs into Shade who happens to have the skills to put her ship back together. I did like the characters in this story quite a bit. Tess was a bit of a mystery especially as the story started but I liked her more an more as we learned more about her past. She considers her crew to be her best friends but she has kept her past hidden from even them. Tess was smart, loyal, and kind, but unsure when it came to Shade. Shade has been through some things and has made some big mistakes. I must say that I liked him right away. He seemed incredibly confident and observant. He does have a pretty big conflict of interest to contend with and I did enjoy getting the chance to peer into his head as he tried to figure out what he wanted to do. I really did like Shade and Tess together even though it seemed to take a long time for things to start happening. I thought that they had great chemistry and their personalities seemed to mesh very nicely together. I really enjoyed the fact that they had some rather heartwarming scenes, some steamy scenes, some were filled with humor, and some with action. No matter what kind of scene they were in, it seemed that their characters just made it better because they were working together. I also really liked seeing the relationships that Tess had with her crew, who were really more like her family than anything. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance blended with some lighter science fiction. I think that this book is a solid first entry in what I expect will be an exciting series. I cannot wait to read more from Amanda Bouchet!I received a digital review copy of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via Edelweiss.

Nightchaser by Amanda BouchetScience fiction romantic adventure. Adult female protagonist. First in a series. Not a cliffhanger but a good feeling of adventures to come. Alternating view points with the heroine in first person and the hero in third person. Interesting dynamic but confusing once or twice. I enjoyed this fast-paced read. Exciting and captivating with an altruistic heroine. Excerpt“Well, Shade Ganavan, I need someone to repair my ship. Do you know of anyone who has at least eight standard tiles of reinforced, space-worthy metal, welding equipment, and a way to get it all up to the three-hundred-and-fourteenth level of the Squirrel Tree?” His head reared back. “You’re in the f**ing Squirrel Tree? Sh*t, princess, I guarantee they’re ripping you off.” I bristled. “It was the only place to land.” “Says the guy who controls the tower, who’s paid off by the guy who owns the Squirrel Tree.” He looked genuinely annoyed on my behalf. It was nice. I couldn’t remember the last time a stranger had stuck up for me simply on principle. This guy was such a contradiction. Shade Ganavan had oodles of arrogance, oodles of charm, and oodles of something that made me want to kick him in the nuts.”Excerpt from the Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to share.

I was SUPER excited to start this book because I really enjoyed Amanda Bouchet's Kingmaker Chronicles. Nightchaser was not what I had originally expected, though I really should have known better. It was a sexy, fun, exciting, high octane space romp with kick ass females and strong character development. The characters were fleshed out beautifully. They were tangible, relateable, likeable and detestable (when need be... helllooooo daddy issues). The world building was great and there was even some blushworthy Sexy Time... a la Amanda Bouchet's norm. Her ability to write characters and situations that you can't help but love is praiseworthy. She has even mastered the art of making the secondary and tertiary characters as loveable/loatheable as the MCs, an enviable talent. If you're a fan of Mrs. Bouchet then this is a must have (unless you're not into scifi... then you probably aren't even reading this review :-). If you're new to her work and are a fan of female characters that inspire you to take on the world(s) in fun and sexy ways then you should definitely give this a go.I will be sitting here anxiously awaiting the rest of the series. ~Enjoy*** I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ***
