Johnny Kavanagh has everything going for him. On the rugby pitch, he's a force to be reckoned with. Primed for stardom, he's heading straight for the top. Nothing can possibly get in his way, right? Not even the shy new girl at Tommen College. The one with the sad eyes and hidden bruises. The one that distracts him like no one ever has.

Plagued with a hidden injury and desperate to impress the scouts watching his every move, Johnny has been placed on a pedestal so high, he has no room to make mistakes. Johnny needs to keep his head in the game. He needs to stay focused and cannot afford to let distractions get in the way of the big picture. But what happens when a lonely girl with sad eyes becomes the only picture?

The hardships of teenage lives: a star athlete and a broken girl.

Shannon is relentlessly bullied by her peers. So much so, that her mother decides to take a loan and put her in a private school at Tommen. On her very first day, she's hit with a rugby ball by no other than the school's golden boy, Johnny.

Johnny's sole focus is rugby and getting on the national team of Ireland. He does diets, conditioning and training, he doesn't do girlfriends. Though his mind has other plans and keeps reminding him of the girl with the midnight blue eyes. She's skittish, secretive and reserved. He can't help, but be protective of her.

This book is so gripping. Keep in mind it's awfully long and the story of Shannon and Johnny is composed of two books. Here we get to know their circumstances. How Johnny's value is related to him as a rugby player. How Shannon's home life is her own personal hell with no prospect of escaping. They create their emotional bond and learn to open up to each other.

Though the story is heartbreaking, it has a glimmer of humour in the form of Gibsy. This boy's golden retriever energy immediately puts a smile on your face and you just want more of him.

I keep wondering how we're gonna get an HEA for two teenagers. So far none of my guesses were right. Immediately jumping into book two.

It's offensively bad. There is not enough space for me to list all the problems with it, like jfc.

This book is about nothing really. I don't know why I finished it.

This is literally the best book I’ve ever read and my new favourite! I have never been so invested in characters before especially the side ones. Now that I’ve finished I don’t even know what to do with my life! ?

Great story. It's a long and slow burn but very compelling. As to the narrators, I liked the Shannon's narrator better, but both are still great.
