About this audiobook

Nominated for the Booker Prize 2019
Shortlisted for the 2019 Women's Prize for Fiction

Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola's third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede's practicality is the sisters' saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her "missing" boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit. A kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where Korede works is the bright spot in her life. She dreams of the day when he will realize they're perfect for each other. But one day Ayoola shows up to the hospital uninvited and he takes notice. When he asks Korede for Ayoola's phone number, she must reckon with what her sister has become and what she will do about it. Sharp as nails and full of deadpan wit, Oyinkan Braithwaite has written a deliciously deadly debut that's as fun as it is frightening.

"A literary sensation." GUARDIAN

"A bombshell of a book... Sharp, explosive, hilarious." NEW YORK TIMES

"Glittering and funny... A stiletto slipped between the ribs and through the left ventricle of the heart."

Wow. Gripping read from the beginning to the very end, filled with unexpected twists and turns. You just never know how things will turn out. Oyinkan brought out all the characters and their flaws in a way that was real and relatable. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Now let me be clear this book is more thriller than it is mystery but the nasty little thing pulled me in from page 1!!!

Ayoola kept on surprising me in every chapter, she kept me wondering what was she always thinking in that little brain of hers. Her sister Korede is always on her side, it shows she really cared and loved Ayoola, wanted her to change her ways.

If you are a serious book worm this book isn’t for you. Reason i continued with it was the glimpses i got about Nigerian culture (though so few). It’s not appropriate to be harsh as this is a creation of a person who put the time and effort therefore i am not going to say more. Reason im writing a non-review review is to save people who like books with depth and character to save thier time and look elsewhere

This was soo dark but definitely my kind of book. I loved Braithwaite's dark sense of humour and the sharp, sarcastic remarks of her characters. The setting in Lagos, Nigeria also really drew me in. I listened to the audio book which I think made it even more entertaining for me because Weruche Opia did such an excellent job with the narration.

#bookreview - Koerde is a nurse in Nigeria who is living under her brilliant younger sister, Ayoola's shadow. Ayoola is charming, beautiful and a complete psychopath. Men are immediately drawn to her and Ayoola uses her looks to get what she wants from them. She quickly disposes of men once she tires of the attention and has no further use of them. Then one day, Ayoola visits her sister at work and meets Tade, a kind and handsome doctor. Ayoola refuses to back down even after finding out that Koerde feels deeply for her colleague.  Hoping to save Tade from the same fate as others, Koerde’s loyalty towards her sister gets tested. She must now find a way to save the man she loves from the sister she is obligated to protect, before he too joins the list of victims.

My top three thoughts on ‘My Sister, the Serial Killer’:
    1. This book is meant to be a disturbing yet darkly funny story about family, duty and obligations. None of the characters are meant to be likeable and they’re often shown to be either too frustratingly naive and easily manipulated. I personally didn’t find the dark humor amusing but I still found this to be a compelling read.
    2. The basic plot of the story is actually too simple and unimaginative for me. I was interested mostly in reading about the history of the family and the few glimpses into the past that led to Ayoola’s murderous tendencies. There isn’t enough of this in the book and the story ends on a very predictable note.
    3. I finished reading/listening to this in one sitting and enjoyed it mostly because I was craving a women centric book that doesn’t show the women as victims or being oppressed. @bookedin3 book review

The book follows an older sister who lives with the possibilty that her beautiful younger sister might be a serial killer. She struggles to find out where she stands with that knowledge, as well as coming to terms with her involvement in the murders. A wonderful, entertaining and humorous listen. Love the story and the narrator.

The book concept is very original, funny and really interesting.

I found the story incredibly well crafted, properly developed and really intriguing from beginning to end.

The whole experience feels very fresh and fun and I would recommend it to anyone who feels curious by the title or cover.

It's not a really dark story but it's not too light either, it feels like a whole new sheet in the Thriller genre.
