About this audiobook

Briella Blake has always been wicked smart. When she’s invited to attend a special school for gifted students, she finally has the chance to focus on a project that begins to consume her – the ability to recreate and save copies of a person’s entire set of memories. Her friendship with a raven that’s as smart as she is leads to conflict with her mother Marian, who is no longer able to deny that there’s something wrong with her child.

Author

Megan Hart

When she was in third grade, Megan Hart fell in love for the first time. Not with a boy (that would wait until fourth grade), but with a story. Homecoming by Ray Bradbury leaped out at her from the pages of a library book, and she tumbled head over heels. In the dark ages, before the days of photocopiers, the only way for her to keep a copy of this story was to copy it out by hand so she could read it over and over again. Something funny happened, though, as she carefully printed it on lined notebook paper. She made "improvements." At age twelve, reading Stephen King's The Stand for the first time one memorable summer, it occurred to her that people really did write books for a living. That's when she decided to become an author. Megan began writing short fantasy, horror and science fiction before graduating to novel-length romances. In 1998, now a stay-home mom, Megan took up writing in earnest, attending her first writing conference and getting her first request for a full manuscript. In 2002 she saw her first book in print, and she hasn't stopped since. She's published in almost every genre of romantic fiction, including historical, contemporary, romantic suspense, romantic comedy, futuristic, fantasy and perhaps most notably, erotic. She also writes non-erotic fantasy and science fiction, as well as continuing to occasionally dabble in horror. Megan's goal is to continue writing spicy, thrilling love stories with a twist. Her dream is to have a movie made of every one of her novels, starring herself as the heroine and Keanu Reeves as the hero. Megan lives in the deep, dark woods with her husband and two monsters...er...children. I love to hear from readers! Please contact me at: readinbed AT gmail DOT com

This book was great, but there was a glitch in the audiobook that had 6-7 of the early middle chapters as the last chapters of the book. So the actual last chapter was listened to then the audiobook continued on to chapter 4!! Please please fix this glitch it was very disappointing listening to the book in this disjointed fashion!

Marian is divorced from Briella's dad Tommy and now remarried to Dean. They are living happily and madly in love. Happy that is except for the problems with Briella. Maybe there hadn't always been something "wrong" with her but she never was quite like other little girls. Different enough in fact that her paternal grandmother found her to be an embarrassment to the family, Different enough that her current school thinks there is just nothing more they can do with her. Briella is a little genius, but sadly that genius runs towards the evil side. She is too smart for her own good and does not seem to feel any empathy or much emotions at all other than the fake ones she can wear like a mask.

If the Bad Seed had been a mad scientist she would have been as scary as Briella.

    I Loved this book!

This is a hard one to categorise. Certainly dark. Definite horror elements, suspense, even a touch of sci-fi. It's not what I would call a fast paced book but it is interesting and does leave you wondering what's going on and what will end up happening. The characters are relatable, and the various familial relationships are portrayed with raw realism. The ending is certainly not something I saw coming. The overall mood of the book is unsettling, but it's not so bleak as to be depressing. Many thanks to Flame Tree Press for the ARC.
