Ms. Draven, you truly know how to weave a gripping romance story (because there is romance, and there is a story). I really enjoyed this standalone, and I'm looking forward to more of yours.

Creating fantasy worlds is an awe-inspiring skill…. Being able to surprise with such a familiar narrative isn’t any less impressive! Grace Draven didn’t borrow from Beauty and the Beast, she wove a wholly new and lovely story. The Shrew and the Forest King earned a very special place in my memory.

I think liked this beauty and the beast retelling more than the original. I enjoyed listening to this so much that finishing feels sad, and I have no idea what to read next it was that good.

LOVE this version of retelling! Its a whole lot of feisty and sexy! More retellings should be like this!!! This is the first book I've read from Grace Draven but I have some in my TBR. I think I'll give them a whirl too! Thoroughly enjoyed this!

Beautiful re-telling of Beauty & the Beast. I actually prefer it over the original tale.

Somebody get this narrator a dictionary.

Someone who gets paid to read a book aloud should probably check on how all the words are pronounced- the homonyms, the unusual words, all of the words. Listening was sometimes difficult because the narrator made such pronunciation mistakes. Here are a few examples from the last hour of the book, but such errors are sprinkled throughout the entire performance:

-Infected wounds leak pus (as opposed to puss)
-Parents used to help young children learn to walk by using leading strings (vs lead-ing strings-made of lead I guess?)
-A person seeking revenge is vindictive (not vindicative, which isn’t even a word)

A decent director should have picked up on these issues and corrected them before the final audio version was published. Such a shame as the book itself is a good (adult )retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and deserved a bona fide narrator.

I am completely surprised by this book. I have never heard of this author before and my expectations were not high. And here a pleasant surprise, this is a really good book.

First of all, we have very well-created and well-developed characters here. Louvaen, the heroine, is definitely a strong woman with a complex personality. She is one of those really strong and intelligent characters. And this is one of the things I didn't expect at all. Ballard makes an equally interesting hero. In many cases, when we’ve got a hero in the book who has a difficult past and some scars, these are the only features that describe him. But not here. Ballard is fully three-dimensional, and we learn about what kind of man he is from his actions and not from what others say about him. Showing, not telling, finally! We also have a few supporting characters here who are equally interesting and relevant to the story and not just there to fill the background. Just for excellent and complex characters alone, it is worth reading this book.

But there is also a pretty good plotline here. Generally, it is a re-telling of the story of the beautiful and the beast. Although maybe not entirely. The threads from various fairy tales mix here. And the whole story is pretty unique. The plot is extensive and very interesting, several threads appear and mix with each other. The removal of the curse from Ballard and his son is only one of them. What I really like is that neither Ballard nor his son are thinking about removing the curse as the purpose of their relationship with the sisters. They are aware of how it can end, but they still give the sisters a choice. That makes the whole story more enjoyable. Surprisingly, there is also no destinated lovers motive here. Or insta-love.

I am definitely pleasantly surprised by this book. This is a very well written and interesting story with fascinating characters. I recommend it not only to those who like re-tellings.

    WOW!!!!

This is the third book I have tried by Grace Craven and boy I wasn't disappointed. This story seemed to me to be a fairytale of a darker Beauty and the beast but with a cursed father/Ballard and son/Gavin and a pair of resourceful sisters Louvaen and Cinnia , there is also a family wizard and an amazing back story which unfolds as this tale progresses. The main story revolves around Ballard and Louvaen with them both slowly falling for each other,we also have in the background Gavin courting Cinnia who is just as complex as her sister, the way this author draws the reader in and gets them emotionally invested in these unique character's is a gift this was an amazing read that I enjoyed immensely, can not wait to read more from the talented Grace Draven.
