The author, having been shot down over the northern Italian Alps on December 10th 1944 piloting a B25 bomber when bombing the Brenner railroad, failed in an effort to reach Yugoslavia and a return to his squadron due to snow conditions.
In view of his active participation with the Italian Partisans and the British Number 1 Special Forces, he was subsequently attached to the British Special Forces on their request by the l2th Air Force for duty with the northern Italian resistance forces.
As a commander of a 44 man Partisan outpost, their aggressive attacks and sabotage against the German occupation forces became a major contribution for the Allied armies and their Italian victories.view less
