I am William S. Allin. I grew up in the South Wales' Valleys and actually still live there, having never found a good enough reason to leave.
I have spent over thirty years being paid to write, but always for other people, and decided it was time to do something for myself. A wise man once told me that writers should always stick to what they know. I hope I have done this with SIKES: Misconstrued, my first novel about a young man's rite of passage and the choices he faces. Sikes is full of incident, pathos, drama and I hope a fair share of humour.
The second book in the series DICEY: Trailing is deliberately written in a different style and involves students, serial killers and psychopaths - things that in truth I rarely come across. The story is more adventure, thriller but once again, I have tried to inject the Valleys humour that I love so much.
When I shared the stories with a close few friends they all encouraged me to pursue publication. However, I was unsure how to pitch Sikes. So, on the recommendation of Robert C Martin (check out his The Perfect Host novel), I decided to embrace the new media and publish it myself. The only problem is that the process has proved to be slightly more involved than I had anticipated and it did not help that I ignored all offers of help. I became obsessed with the challenge of doing everything - including designing the covers - myself.
As a result, practically everything involved in the novel (with the exception of the actual photography which was provided by Clive Stanley Williams) is my own work so if you hate it then you know where the fault lies....If you like what you see and decide to take the bold step and buy my book then I am really grateful. Either way I would welcome your feedback in order to learn lessons ready for my next novels.
