He still prefers moving around to staying still.
Educated in England and Germany, he speaks English, German, and Norwegian, which can be confusing for those around him, but helps with research for his writing. He administers 3 grant-making charities.
Richard has lived in Suffolk since 2006, and has no immediate plans to leave. He is married, has four children, a cat, a rusty 1966 Triumph Spitfire, a collection of epees, and thousands of books in boxes.
Richard's debut novel, Dead Men, was published by Duckworth in the UK in March 2012, and by the Overlook Press in the US in May 2012. Nominated for the Guardian First Book Award, the novel has been described by Katie Ward as "an emotional adventure and an unsettling ghost story. It’s an exploration of those two opposing magnetic forces – the one pulling us onward, and the one pulling us home – and a sympathetic salute to the flawed and foolhardy human spirit."
He also writes poetry and paints.view less
