Geology seemed like a better bet than either history or English lit once I got to college, and it led to a career that included a summer fellowship at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, summer work in private industry, post-doctoral fellowships at the Smithsonian and the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, and finally to the faculty at Cerritos Community College in Southern California. Over the years I've authored or co-authored more than 25 scientific papers, field guides, and symposium contributions, in addition to a number of popular articles. Through it all I never lost my love of writing poetry and fiction. It's all story telling, though obviously the rules are a bit different for reporting research findings. Now that I've retired from academia to glorious Flagstaff, Arizona, I have a lot more time to pursue my passion for fiction. Nereis, Nereis (with my friend Frank Gaik), my first completed novel, was great fun to write, but, I promise, it won't be my last effort.view less
