The Golden Mile, which was once a chain of individual gold mines stretching across the two towns, later became known as the “Super Pit,” the largest, open-pit gold mine in the country. Her childhood was plagued by loneliness, fear, and rejection which hindered but did not deter her ambition to become a nurse. Rebellion and resentment within her became her sources of strength and determination. After training as a nurse, Vicki married at the age of seventeen. It seemed to her that all her hopes and dreams had come true, but it did not take her long to realize that “All that glitters is not necessarily gold.” Insecurity, personal loss, grief, and a sense of hopelessness eventually proved to be too much for her, and the marriage failed. As hard as she tried, she was unable to provide her two children with the love and security lacking in her own childhood. Vicki spent many years haunted by painful memories from the past. But a chance encounter with someone who spoke to her about God resulted in a sudden and dramatic life change. The driving force behind this book is a collection of poems written by the author shortly after her encounter with God. These poems portray her feelings and emotions during the early years of her Christian walk. Her personal journey of faith across a river of hopelessness and despair is a beacon to all who may be searching for truth and purpose in their lives.view less
